Al Franken will make an announcement on his show today re: MN Sen
<snip>

Democrats said they expected a lively competition for the party's nomination. Possible candidates range from Minneapolis lawyer Mike Ciresi, who ran against Dayton in the 2000 primary, to radio show host Al Franken, who told The Associated Press he would make an announcement on his show today.

Former Vice President Walter Mondale, who lost to Republican Norm Coleman in a Senate race in 2002, said he had no idea who would run. He ruled himself out.

1. just what we need, another Dem who's clueless about election fraud
I know he's good on attacking Repubs and most of the other issues but you can't get very far if the votes aren't counted.

5. They didn't have to.
Do you believe that evil people wouldn't do anything they could to consolidate their power?

7. They didn't need to...
At most, all they needed to do was hold down Kerry's popular margin of victory in the state.

6. Wellstone's memorial
Edited on Thu Feb-10-05 10:09 AM by Oreo
A lot of people think this is why.
It started out really well.. was very touching but it turned into a weird political event. I personally was pretty disgusted with it by the end. A lot of people were in shock and did some stuff I'm sure they regret now. Some people here will probably tell you differently.

Some Democrats felt Paul Wellstone's memorial service was a political disaster

Saturday, Nov. 09, 2002
Did the memorial service for Paul Wellstone cost Democrats the election?

A backlash against the politically charged service almost certainly helped Norm Coleman beat Walter Mondale for Wellstone's Minnesota Senate seat. And a private poll by Bill Clinton's former pollster, Mark Penn, suggests the service backfired on Democrats nationally as well.

Penn found that 68% of voters knew about the service—a high awareness of an event broadcast live nationally only on C-SPAN. What's more, 49% of voters said the service made them less likely to vote for a Democrat—and 67% of independents said they felt that way. One Democrat who quickly sensed that the service was a political disaster was Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, a possible 2004 presidential contender.

10. Wellstone and Coleman were neck and neck before the crash
Wellstone was polling under 50%. Mondale took a lead after named then the memorial service caused a backlash. The right wingers played it up which hurt Mondale. One of Al Franken's books went into this media spin on the event.

8. What about Paul Neuman v. Joe Lieberman
Atrios said last week that was the rumor.
Apparently he thought it was strong enought to write about.
Any updates?
