I Believe.
This thread has served different purposes for many people since it was first started by Doohickie, back when we were all looking around at each other and asking, "What are we going to do about this stolen election?", which began in the dark hours when the sun was farthest from each of the time zones, in eerie succession.

Many have come to say that they really wanted to believe that the truth would come out, and that democracy would triumph.

Many have also gathered to say that they knew, for a fact, that this crime could not withstand the tests of time, of the people of America, and the Constitutional government built, rebuilt, and invested in by the honest effort and toil of so many good people, over more than two hundred years.

And everyone crazy enough to step up and say in the darkest hours that they believed that the spirit of this nation, so miraculously encoded in the Constitution of the United States of America, would triumph over those who would game the system they had become part of, has with each week found it easier and easier to be a believer.

A believer in justice, turning slowly and surely. In the essential goodness of the people of this country, which is now shamefully doubted throughout the world.

And in the eventual triumph of the American spirit: Opportunity for anyone. Justice for everyone. The small, and just; and also the great, and guilty.

I believe, because I know America is better than this.

Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 12:41 AM by Faye
and I believe that i recall the feeling, the demeanor, the essence of the original "I Believe" thread, and although the purpose is now different, the overall feeling remains and justice and truth WILL prevail.

It is only a matter of time and a matter of patience. :toast:

...here are committed to reclaiming our America.

I know we will prevail against those who have lied, murdered, tortured and plundered using names like "God" and "Jesus" and "Freedom" as their scam -- as so often has happenned in the past.

Now, they've tried to add "America" to their propaganda; their cover.

They will fail.

We are the reason why they will fail.

"We The People ...." are going to stop them, NOW.

Not by violence, but by law.

Not by arrogance, but by dignity.

Not by hatred, but by being smarter and TRUTHFUL.

Peace.

8. I'm not sure. Things do seem to be unraveling,
just not fast enough. I believe we can hold on until blivet** and his crew are gone. I believe we won't have to wait four years for that to happen. Actually, I don't think they'll even be around two years from now. I believe we can work together to undo much, although not all, of the harm that has been done. Every day, a few more ordinary Americans wake up and realize they don't like the way things are going and those people are slowly coming to the realization that maybe they don't have to suffer in silence. I believe they will be heard, and so will we!

9. Oh, your timing is always so good, Bleever
You always know when a fresh reminder is necessary. And it has to do with more than the length of time it takes the dial-up folks to load the page ;)

We are moving forward, maybe not as fast as we would like sometimes, but to do this right, to fix it right, we have to be patient. Baby steps...

February sucks. I hate to make a blanket statement like that about a month, but for me, it is true, and I am sure a lot of you (especially Northerners) know exactly what I mean. Tired all the time, sick and tired...It is hard this time of year to find all the energy we need right now - the energy it takes to hold onto our Hope and our Faith and our motivation and our courage. The energy it takes to keep working for this, on top of everything else in our lives.

Thank you Bleever, for inspiring us all once again to take a minute and remember why we do this, why this is so damn important, and, most of all, to see how many other people are with us. WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER! AND WE ARE MAKING THINGS HAPPEN!!!

How could one not believe with all the wonderful, knowledgeable people here?

Faye has taught us about election fraud.
Truth Is All has the most amazing analysis of the election, which made a real believer out of me.
ClassWarrior and bleever inject humor into any thread, while making very good points.
The KOEB brightens up the news even on a dark day.
So many voices reaching out, past this board, into real world action.

Yes, I believe in a better future.

13. I believe
...I believe in us, in solitary people coming together to fight something much bigger than any one of us alone.

...I believe in our Constitution & Bill of Rights, and the wisdom of the authors that understood the seductive nature of power, and how they toiled to protect us from those who would seize power for the purpose of abusing it.

...I believe that these criminals who have subverted our Constitution and are in the process of dismantling it WILL ROT IN HELL.

...I believe that as long as I have breath in my body I will work to expose these bastards & demand justice.

I believe that I am very grateful for EVERYONE who is here for the same purpose.

Peace

I believe that * will fall from the place he is in now. Kind of like Humpty Dumpty.

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
And all the King's horses and all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty back together again.

I think that the story of Humpty Dumpty has a real historical reference.
I don't remember exactly but it referred to a real political figure of the past.

Anyway, I am still a believer...it's February 15, 2005 and I still believe that America is so much better than this.

God save us from * and his cohorts. God help us to save ourselves.

Each time when I log on to DU, I always notice the number of registered users. It keeps increasing (almost 65,000) and it gives me hope that the word of e-fraud and the b*sh evil empire is reaching into more and more hearts of those who didn't know the truth. And once you know what's really going on, you have no choice but to fight and get the truth out. Yes, I believe and I have hope.

I lost everything on my computer.Pictures and all that stuff for the past five years, I was so bummed. What I did was try to reinstall Windows ME because I was missing a file and thus could not use DSL until I had the Missing file.So smarty pants me, I decided I would reinstall windows Me and I will be all set. The computer came back up with nothing on it.Gone... everything....gone.It felt almost as bad as the election results, ok not quite, but definately like a fire burning down your house with your pictures inside. That is the lowlight of my month.

If you would just mention that there is a chance the * administration is going to try to make it so the
Democratic Underground is no longer a completely independent website by donating millions to the DU with the only catch being DU would have to abide by his rules. I betchya that would get some people stirred up enough to donate. They cannot buy our opinions or our website. Hmmmmm?

I'm not as quick with links to news articles, nor as knowledgeable about e-voting and such as many, but when lawn signs need to be delivered, or phone calls need to be made, I can fill those tasks well. Small voices make up this country, and will bring it back to greatness.:toast:

59. Sometimes, it's the "little" things...
I believe for lots of reasons, large and small.
The large things have already been posted by others, so I'll focus on the "little things" that have helped me to keep on believing.

I believed when I heard John Kerry say (in his remarks prior to casting his "no" vote on the Condoleeza Rice nomination), "Well, our votes have to count for something." I believe he knows the election was stolen, that for reasons undisclosed he hasn't been able to show his hand -- yet, and that those words were meant to convey that very thing to us.

I believed when, during the media blackout of the Ohio electoral challenge, I saw the "news bite" items on CNN's Headline News segue from one about Social Security, ending with "... says President Bush", to one beginning with "Pygmy Chimps: Scientists perform experiment...". I don't know if it was an intentional, subliminal jab by someone with a sense of humor in the "News Bite" division of Headline news, or if was just a random coincidence, but it gave me a much needed belly-laugh that day. I hope that guy/gal behind the scenes still has a job.

I believed when my brother, a staunch "*" defender, finally said to me, "I think you may be right, after all."

I believed every day when I logged on to DU, and spent hours (upon hours!) reading posts and articles from so many other people who believed too, even -- especially -- when there seemed to be no hope in doing so.

I believe because you have educated me, bolstered me, and emboldened me.
Thanks, DU!!

63. A good point. I certainly don't mean to be exclusive by saying
"American spirit". The reference was to how the best of the human spirit has been exemplified in the noblest aspirations of this country's constitution and its people, and that it is this system and these people that will overcome the assault on democracy waged by * and his uber-handlers.

64. Thank you for this thread!!!
There was a time, before the last presidential selection that I woke each morning saying a prayer of thanks, feeling calm and peaceful, performed the salute to the sun yoga poses and tried to spend as much of my day as I could breathing deeply, moving gracefully and appreciating the beauty of the small moments of everyday life.

I notice now that I wake in the mornings with my heart racing, feeling not calm, centered, peaceful, but scared, scattered and anxiety-ridden.

Stumbling on this thread tonight has reminded me of what I seem to have forgotten. Hope can not grow from fear. This administration knows this and I believe that is part of their ability to control so many.

If enough of us stand firm in our knowledge that truth, goodness and love will always overcome deceit, evil and fear there is no way for us to fail.

Love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need...

67. I believe my
daughter has a point here. Here is her answer to a freinds question.

DON’T TRUST YOUR RELATIVES AND FRIENDS!!
Russia was able to protest and have a new election. Why? Because they trust their family, friends, and co-workers more than the media and their government. They trust all of these people based on their words, no questions asked. In this country, there is a percentage of people who only believe the media, and totally disregard the thoughts of their relatives and friends.
If a Russian is told by his friend or family that the vote was rigged, he is not going to call that person a sore loser, or worse yet, a conspiracy theorist. He definitely isn’t going to say, “Well, I didn’t see it on the television, so it must not be true.” At the end of the day, these two will have passed it on to 2000-4000 people, and so on, all because of the trust they have in each other. They are able to get to the bottom of it, and do it without the media.

68. I too believe...
... that America has seen dark days like these in her past and has managed, against all odds, to find her way back to the light.

With the help of folks like all of you, the sun may once again shine over this great land.

What conditions are necessary for the darkness to lift, this time around?

The right-wing rose to power by means of the preposterous characterization of themselves as victims of arrogant liberals who control everything, very similarly to the way Nazis portrayed themselves as victims of the international Jewish conspiracy. The right's Littlechap vs Sir routine has worked wonderfully for them.

So long as conservatives appear to be "reforming" a 75-year-old bloated liberal system, Americans will accept any outrageous "solution" perpetrated upon them because no American wishes to be seen as lagging behind the times (that's how, in America, you can be "conservative" and "the next new thing" simultaneously -- impossible in Europe).

I believe that the American people must begin to see Bush and the Republicans as The Establishment before progressive protest will have any effect. In otherwords, progressivism must emerge in the popular imagination as edgy and new and the only place, politically, for bright young things to be.

Keep referring to the right as the Establishment and to news organizations as the Establishment Media (because, let's face it, they are and always were). When the concept begins to catch on, you'll know we're almost home.

~ A rose to each and every one of you. @~>~~~

You either believe we shall overcome, or you give up, and join the sheeple, keeping your head down and your ears closed.

You either believe that the constitution will win out and leash these bastards, or you shrink into the background conforming to the larger society's lynch-mob like mentality.

I have no choice: It is ingrained in me that truth and justice will prevail, that I can make a difference, that America will, once again, get back on track and lead the world toward a better day.

78. I believe.
I believe that enough of my fellow Americans take this country seriously to save it.

I believe we are witnessing the start of a new community, one which values and rewards honesty -- one where integrity trumps creed, philosophy, status, and culture.

I believe you don't have to be naive to be just, and that we will outsmart, expose, and expunge the criminals who pretend to be like us, no matter how devious their performance.

I believe we understand that true trust in one another takes time and never-ending effort to build and sustain, but pays us back many times over, as it is the bedrock from which we cannot be toppled.

I believe the power of the whole is derived from the power of the members, and as such we will not over-exert. I believe we will each take good care of ourselves as well as, when needed, each other. I believe we will strike the correct balance between kindness to strangers and the kindness which sustains those who we already know are with us, never shortchanging one for the other.

I believe that we are all fallable, but that we need only work in plain view to ensure that our friends will help to prevent our lapses and to pick up after our shortfallings.

I believe that many of the things we consider routine now, at one point looked to us like hopeless impossibilities. I believe that the challenge before us now is merely one more such thing.

Most importantly, having been ignored, having been laughed at, and having been fought, I BELIEVE WE WILL WIN.

Last night I went to a Town Hall meeting with the SOS of Georgia Cathy Cox, it was pretty interesting. I think she thought she could calm our woes about paper ballots. She now sees a need for a receipt being printed as the person votes, that is a start. She kept saying well optical scans disenfranchised many voters blah blah blah and someone piped out of the crowd and said "DOES ANYONE HERE ASKING FOR OPTICAL SCAN MACHINES?" and the crowd yelled "NO" ,it was great. I think she only stated for aobut three questions and then high-tailed it our of there.
I think she knows where that crowd stands, anyway.

I do believe in the eventual triumph of the American spirit. I also believe that we may have more power to change things ourselves by using the initiative process in the states where it is available. In a system where placing someone in the Secretary of State office seems to prelude stealing the vote, I think we need to actively write some initiatives that place the vote and the ability to recount and assess the accuracy of the vote back into the hands of the people.

104. Believing is both a cause and an effect.
Lately on the "effect" side, believing in the inevitability of justice coming to the thieves of our democracy has become easier with each passing week, as we see KKKRove's pressroom plant outed, in a big way, in a story that has legs (and other parts too, judging from the posted photos), and also watching *'s global charm offensive result in Putin tossing Rathergate and the electoral college in his face like a drink, and turning around to welcome Iran into his Preferred Customer Club.

On the "cause" side:

It's working. It's happening. Along with, and because of, our belief that this manipulation of our American democracy must fail because it underestimates the resilience of the Constitution and the resources of the people, Americans are still talking about the things the * administration want buried, and doubting things that can't be doubt-proofed by the claim that "9/11 changed everything".

Eyes are opening. Topics that were supposed to die on the vine are washed by the rain and grow healthy and fat.

I believe that history conspires with those who know it best, and that we're witnessing a unique, but predictable, modern version of an ancient story.

thread has to be less than 2 days old.

I believe that there is much emphasis on who is numero uno in this country but that America's greatness lies in we the people, it is us the little guys that make this a great country. Think about 9-11, how many of the speakers from the presidential conventions swooped down from the heavens to help those people. It was the average guy on the street, the average fire fighter, the average policeman, the average transit worker, etc. that risked even their lives to help others. I think that God has given us an opportunity with this blogging thing to connect with each other all over this country to share experiences and reaffirm our beliefs that this nation is founded on the belief that ALL men are created equal and that there is liberty and justice for all. Our vote may have been ripped away from us but we are not silenced and our voice will be heard and we will take back what has been stolen from us and this country will be a democratic nation once more. I believe.

their share of hope and FORWARD-looking energy. We need this very much.

I believe, too.

I know that, for the majority of people, being KIND feels good and so will spread if it isn't punished. Kindness is contagious, maybe even moreso than the hate and fear by which the monsters seek to manipulate all the good people who fill this country.

In the same way, forming a COMMUNITY of wide-awake individuals sharing goals, sources of learning and beauty, and discoveries feels good. There is no comparison with the blind black isolation the monsters seek to impose in order to overwhelm the many with the power of the few.

You don't have to be "trying to be good" according to a codified religion for kindness and sharing to feel good. It is part of the heart of all of us (except those sad, sick people who are for whatever reason incapable) and it is at the basis of the best hopes for a world future. We are built from the inside out for a community of glowing individuals linked through the soul.

I believe, and it is not a blind faith.

that our efforts are having an impact! With bloggers making the news, the corporate media cannot ignore what's really going on in our country. News of corruption is seeping into our nightly news...DeLay, Halliburton. The article about Ohio's election in Vanity Fair will give even more people a nudge, and the DNC is investigating. Our Democratic Senators are fighting to keep the drilling rigs out of ANWR, and John Kerry is leading the charge!!! I BELIEVE the tide is turning.

134. I do believe
that if I were to think in terms of "metrics", I'd have to say that a metric for an energized community, or system of communities, would find that our energy, if I can call it "our" energy, is not only very good, but trending positively. Do I mean that we've achieved critical mass? No, that's not what I'm saying, though that argument can certainly be made. Am I saying that within the dimension that might be called "morale" that we're in good shape? Absolutely.

And similarly, a metric for the overall mood of the country would, I suggest, would find that the credibility of the * administration is not a stock rated "buy", or even "hold", given the giant pig behind the lipstick of Iraqi elections, the stench behind the carnation of the lapel on the * budget, and the fact that all the Turtle Wax in the world can't make *'s Social Security '78 Pinto into a shiny Cadillac in every driveway.

And finally, and perhaps most crucially, if we were to choose almost any credible metric for the material aspects, if you will, of this administration's policies, we would find first of all many dead people, no imminent threat neutralized, incredible national debt, and a fourth estate who at this point can only redeem themselves by filling in the blanks that they've been fed by a manipulative adminstration that has given them the poison friendship of "embedded reporters" and their particular version of a "free and independent relationship with the press".

Am I saying this is a perfect world? No. Am I saying that the fruits of karma are inescapable? Obviously.

With apologies (NOT!) to Donald "What's a little poison gas and torture between friends" Rumsfeld.

138. I believe we've got some momentum building, as *'s party is
waking up to discover that following him and his Social Security plan, Iraq quagmire, and lying-ass budget over the cliff is not the way to get re-elected.

*'s attitude to his underlings has always been, f*** you if you don't play team ball. But now team ball looks like suicide, and the manager is looking like he might be freakin' crazy.

Add this to the press getting together to talk amongst themselves about what to do about the crappy position the administration has maneuvered them into. They're slowly realizing they've been punked, and that they need to get back to being a critical advocate for full accountability.

So how long can everyone ignore the stolen election? My guess is, not that much longer; certainly not long enough for anything close to a "successsful" second term for the worst occupant of the Oval Office in American history.

I still believe.
Tonight I went to a candlelight vigil for all of the people who have lost their lives in the terrible war in Iraq. It was a really good chance to see the true colors of the people of this nation.
There were a few belligerent people who flicked us off and hollered at as. Real gems like, "If you don't like it here, leave!"
How original.
Another favorite was, "Thank God for George Bush"
Some people were really angry, shaking their fists at us. Some, but not many.
Most people honked and waved. They flashed us peace signs. A few thanked us. I was as stunned as I was touched by that.
I was left with no choice but to believe in the common decency of the majority of my fellow citizens.
I can't give up on my dream of a better future for every one of us.
So, I believe. No matter how dark it gets, I will hold onto the light.

146. Hey Sparky
and Hi to everyone. I hope you are wrong sparky but you are probably right. Those control freaks who did not even get voted in are changing our laws. Georgia just passed a law last weekend undoing the "Jim Crowe" law here where everyone will have to show a drivers license or something close to it in order to vote. I know they plan to disenfranchise all the blacks or anyone they can with that one bill. I am sick about it, they said the democrats stormed out the building and said "Jim Crowe would roll over in his grave if he knew."

I am very busy working with my group locally here in Georgia we are doing a Citizens Audit of the Georgia Election Since we are all Diebold here we are hoping to find enough mistakes -intentional or otherwise to file a lawsuit. ACLU is considering whether or not to take it on. We are auditing the paper print outs from the DRE machines and comparing them with the Official SOVC's and looking for any other descepensies. One way or the other we plan to take it to court so that we can get access to the data on CD's but they won't release that right now because it has Diebold software on it. We are hoping one fair judge will let us have a CD and then we will really know what numbers we are looking at

We have not been able to afford the open records request for all of the counties( ranges from 100 to over 1000 dollars each county) because the costs would be overwhelming, we are just trying to request the suspicious ones. It is weird that Gore got higher percentages than Kerry, but I know people liked Kerry alot more than gore. It is good to hear that still so many people are working diligently in their states to try to change the legislation(Georgia was unsuccessful) and preparing fight legal battles against Diebold and ESS and others. Wish us luck here in Georgia if we can invalidate Diebold here in Georgia we can take it across the country and invalidate 30% of the votes.Wish us luck.

Countpaperballots.com (parts of the website are up and running and we plan to put whole counties on line so than everyone can view and help look at the numbers.)

I miss all of you guys , but this good.Oh and I believe.

145. I believe in CHANGE!
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 12:33 PM by meganmonkey
I was just thinking about this thread yesterday. I got a copy of one of my favorite albums from when I was about 13 years old - Life's Rich Pageant by REM. And I was thinking about how much the words of many of the songs ring true today, almost 20 years later. There is a song on the album called, guess what?!

I BELIEVE

Trust in your calling, make sure your calling's true
Think of others, the others think of you
Silly rule golden words make, practice, practice makes perfect,
Perfect is a fault, and fault lines change

I believe my humor's wearing thin
And change is what I believe in

I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in

When I was young and full of grace
As spirited a rattlesnake
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit, I will not tell
You're on your honor, on your honor
I believe in example
I believe my throat hurts
Example is the checker to the key

I believe my humor's wearing thin
And I believe the poles are shifting

I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in

148. I'm back.... for a visit, anyway.
Somewhere upthread, someone said,

Here's to Doohickie! Hoping that she is doing OK and will be back in our good graces soon. Thanks to Doohickie for giving us all a place to be hopeful. We miss you sweety. It will all be OK.

To set the record straight, I'm a "he". Thank you.

A few thoughts:

First of all, while I am still concerned that the "War on Terrah" will be expanded into other countries like Syria and Iran, I have to say that at this point, I am pleasantly surprised that with the course the administration is taking with respect to looking for ways to cooperate with Western Europe. Bush seems to be doing the same things I expected Kerry would do in this regard.

Having said that, I am still suspicious that W will soon be rattling sabers about other "terrah-ist" nations like the ones mentioned above, and will try to expand the War on Terrah into those areas. I hope it doesn't happen, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

On the domestic front, there are several areas where W is getting under my skin. First is Social Security "reform". I have the following beefs with Bush's plans:
1) It doesn't save Social Security, nor does it give people more money.
2) SS isn't in imminent danger anyway. If it's not broke, don't fix it. If it may be broke in the future, plan to fix it gradually.
3) I think these are the real goals of the scheme:
a) To line the pockets of those who will administer the "private accounts" by funneling money to brokers (and thus taking money out of the accounts).
b) To slowly re-educate/brainwash those who normally are not sympathetic to big business so that they become putty in the corporate world's hands. If the neocons convince the people that their livelihood after retirement depends solely on the stock market, it will be easier to push pro-corporate bills through.

Also on the domestic front: Terry Schiavo. This, in my opinion, is a red herring. Period. The state courts have ruled, the federal courts are now backing them up. Nothing will change. She will die, but in essence I believe she already has. The reason W became personally involved was to pander to the religious right and to give people something to be indignantly angry about. If not for Schiavo, the masses might find something else to get upset about.... like maybe Tom Delay's campaign financing. The whole Schiavo thing is a diversion to keep us from looking at the corruption behind the curtain.

So.... bringing it back to the topic of the thread: I believe that, in the end, W and his friends will get what they deserve. I believe that even W and his friends cannot ruin our great nation. I believe things will get better because you can only hoodwink the American people for so long.

And I believe John Kerry would have made a great president. (*sigh*)

Your words were an inspiration to a lot of people.

I Believe you are right. There is no way a Bush** is going to take down this nation. In fact, I Believe, the neocons have overestimated the faithfulness of their own people.

I foresee an uprising within the Republican party as moderates try to reclaim their voice from the radical right wingers that have hijacked it.

I Believe this lame duck blivet is going to have a very difficult time with his big agenda items. I also believe that the harder they push, the more they will feel payback in 2006.

As for John Kerry, based on his performance as Senator, I must agree that he would have been a phenomenal President.

153. On a beautiful Easter Sunday, I believe in renewal and rebirth,
natural and inevitable parts of the miracle of life.

And I believe that democracy survives and thrives when the miraculous impulse of creation animates good people through their involvement and activity to renew the vitality of its institutions.

And the people who commandeer these institutions to enrich themselves and thwart the peaceful wishes of the nation must, like a long winter's ice in springtime, inevitably lose their hold and melt away under the warmth of the sun.

I believe that in working for democracy, we are embodying the miracle of creation, and are allied with the force by which all things are made. Greed, hate, and ideology have always eventually been conquered by this force, and so they shall again.

Happy Easter.

It could make a fine obituary if we don't watch out. Lots of good decent and dead victims out there already.

THIS REALITY BROUGHT TO YOU BY MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD

FIVE MILLION FAKE VOTES (my personal favorite)

REPUBLICANS SERVE DARKNESS

CONSERVATIVE MEANS CRIMINAL

They seem to be staying up, and are often directly in the path of many dark-hearts. More, more, more visibility. More Free Speech. I love this. And thank you, Democratic Underground. If we live, you'll be known as the soul of the Restored United States of America.

How are you? I do remember the long winters of the North, I just can't stomach them anymore.I am a southern girl now and it is sunnier down here too, then where I came from. No more winter depressions for me.

Get away for the weekend and go to the Nashville conference, the weather is supposed to be good there and you can find out what all of the different organizations and people are doing about election fraud and reform.

I believe!

. . . that as long as some people are up while others are down, as long as there are new people entering the pipeline while veterans are recovering from burnout, we will get there.

I'm amazed and awed by the tenacity shown by activists on this issue. It's one thing to jump on a big bandwagon when it's already rolling, that's easy to do. It's quite another to keep it going when mostly what you hear is that you're nuts and you might as well forget it.

My profound gratitude to everyone who persists in this important work -- everyone who has made the decision to never, never, NEVER give up!

We really believe these crimes will not go unpunished, and we won't give up until we get our country back.

And then we'll only take a short break to celebrate, and then we'll keep on building what we need to so that America's government is truly representative, truly protects and defends the Consitution, and the tradition of a free press that serves as the public's eyes and ears to hold those in power to their promises is restored.

I can't understand why so many people around here have been so pessimistic lately. We can't keep worrying about things, dwelling on the negative and arguing with one another. That only makes our enemies stronger. You guys have lots of great ideas and I'm so glad that so many of you are pursuing them. Change doesn't happen over night. We have to stay calm and persistent and things will eventually work out the way we want. It can happen if we put our minds to it.

Some good things have happened lately. Like the Boxer-Snowe amendment on the Global Gag Rule, the millions of people standing with Harry Reid at the Supreme Court yesterday, the Senate voting on changes to the Patriot Act, and Wesley Clark's testimony before the Congress today about Iraq in which he really kicked some neocon ass. That was truly amazing. He really took a stand and let the Republicans know about the true situation of the war.

Some people in the mainstream seem to believe that DeLay is going down. We have the power to make him go down if we stay focused. So all is not lost. We can't keep assuming the worst.

And, as someone mentioned earlier in another forum, when people mention impeachment, don't immediately shoot them down and say, "It won't happen. Repubs control everything." How do we know it won't? For all we know, impeachment could have already started in secret somewhere. Don't give up hope.

In regards to the 2006 and 2008 elections, we have to keep fighting to get rid of the machines. We can't give in and say, "Repubs count the votes. We can't win." There are legal ways we can dismantle the machines and we're going to pursue every legal method we know. Howard Dean knows about this himself.

I believe Martin Luther King once said, "Evil isn't defeated over night," or something to that extent.

It took a while for Watergate and Iran Contra to unfold. John Kerry helped uncover both Iran Contra and BCCI. Who knows what he's planning to unleash on the Bush cartel. I'm sure he knows a lot about these people. We need him and he needs us.

Never stop believing and never give up. We have the power. We can make our dreams a reality.

And remember...

"I am not a crook!"
-Richard Nixon

"Trust, but verify."
-Ronald Reagan

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
-George W. Bush

178. I believe that things are turning around.
Winter has given way to spring.
Death has been conquered with new life.
Our nation has seen the ugly face of death, up close, and seen its true ugliness - much of it perpetuated in the name of politics or religion.

But I also believe that people have heard and seen enough. The blivet's numbers are plummeting, Delay is in the hot seat, and as the economy continues to sink, people will begin waking up.

This is not what we the people voted for. And as long as I have breath in my body, I will continue to say that I believe we will not only survive, but heal the division in our land.

179. I was gearing up to try to express my fresh optimism, and you've spoken
to the truths I was hoping to be able to express.

Americans are good people. America is the noblest national experiment yet known on the planet, and though it's an ongoing experiment, there's no questioning the strength, vitality, and resilience of this system, built on checks and balances.

No matter who it is that tries to suffocate the checking and balancing established by the Constitution, they will inevitably come up against the will of the people unless they're able to put armed soldiers in the streets to control the populace.

That's not going to happen here. In fact, the military vote, for the first time that I'm aware of, has been suppressed instead of trumpeted.

It's going to come down to propaganda and procedure.

The Dems in the Senate (and even some of the R's in the House!) have found their footing to say, Don't Tread on Me.

Things are unraveling. * has nothing to offer but false escapes from the deep doodoo he's gotten us into, and his credibility might as well have a Do Not Resuscitate order on its chart.

Not. Giving. Up.

Because we're on the winning side.

182. Cream rises to the top,
and I believe that men and women of substance, with good hearts and minds, are coming together and will lead this country out of the Bush-abyss. The veil of deceit is lifting, and people are waking up from their Rove-induced slumbers and are aware that they have been manipulated and are outraged that this great country has been held hostage by an inept, treacherous, morally bankrupt administration. People are voicing their opinions against government interference with families' end of life decisions, and they are saying NO to the privatization of SS.

The Blivet has misjudged the intelligence and the will and the strength and the integrity of the American people.

We will NOT be distracted.

We will NOT roll over.

183. This message was given by Bernie Ellis
the man who organized the Nashville Conference. It is very moving and we all need to take notice. The time has come for us to be our own hero's.

From the Hopi Elders

You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.
Now you must go back and tell the people that this is The Hour.

Here are the things that must be considered:
Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?

Know our garden.
It is time to speak your Truth.

Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.

This could be a good time!

There is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.
They will try to hold on to the shore.
They will feel like they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.

Know the river has its destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off toward the middle of the river,
keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.
See who is there with you and celebrate.

At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves!
For the moment we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.

The time of the lonely wolf is over. Gather yourselves!
Banish the word struggle from your attitude and vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.

We are the ones we have been waiting for.

The Elders, Oraibi, Arizona, Hopi Nation

this is my 5000th post. I believe when I stumbled in here, I had no idea what I would find. I believe I've found more than I could have ever imagined, and I'm thankful for all of it.

DU :yourock:

I also believe the recent poll numbers show what we've known for quite a while:

"WASHINGTON -- The public's dissatisfaction with President Bush and the Republican-led Congress is growing, with approval ratings dropping amid record-high gas prices, the war in Iraq, the Social Security debate, and the emotional Terri Schiavo case.

Bush's job approval is at 44 percent, with 54 percent disapproving. Only 37 percent of those surveyed said they have a favorable opinion of the work being done by Congress, according to an AP-Ipsos poll.

The number supporting Bush's handling of some domestic issues dipped between March and April, to 42 percent for the economy and 38 percent for issues such as education and healthcare, according to the poll conducted for the Associated Press by Ipsos-Public Affairs.

Support for the president's approach to his top domestic priority, Social Security, remained at 36 percent, while 58 percent oppose it."

-- Associated Press, April 9, 2005.

201. I'm pretty damn sure, right about now,
about a few things:

First of all, that we can all agree that the second * term isn't so triumphal at this point.

Lowest second-term approval in history; some R's gagging on the fascist soup du jour; Iraq and the economy drifting towards the guard rail; and the bully-boy marketing wearing extremely thin.

Second: looking around, there's an astounding profusion of flowering of the efforts of those who believed this election was shit. We're witnessing, if I may, a virtual turd blossom of creative, forward-facing beauty growing from the dung heap of lies and treason that has brought us to this moment in American history.

And third: because they have, as the keystone of their bully-boy mentality, made it their business to be the cops, and unleash their uniformed forces upon any dissenters, become the Keystone Cops of neoconservatism, fulfilling their destiny by over-reaching (like all ideologues), and thus turned themselves into a cartoon for the common knowledge to encapsulate, and so make it natural and spontaneous for newcomers to conceptualize and separate themselves from.

And here is where I state the obvious, and claim credit for it:

The corollary to "All politics is local" is, "It's all now, baby".

And right now, they're giving us quagmire, deficits, gridlock, and class warfare.

Americans aren't spending whatever "capital" they might have on these items.

We're spending it on:

Oil and gas.

(Laugh maniacally here, with a sense of cosmic irony knowing that they are meticulously tracing the lines of their own failings while they defend themselves.)

And, above and beyond all these details of the failings of the usurpers, I believe that the spirit of America, and the belief that individual liberty makes for the best society of peoples, is triumphing.

We need your help to mark this anniversary.

It's been two years since Mr. Bush declared "Mission Accomplished!" in his hired flight suit. How many people have died since that pronouncement? And as we all have seen, nothing could be further from the truth. Our illegal war has only led to the deterioration of both our nation and theirs.

Please join us in a day of peaceful resistance to this mendacity.

Read more here:

www.missionnotaccomplished.us

Please ring up your outlets and networks and ask, where do we do from here? What are we willing to do? When will it be time to reflect, if not NOW?

An exerpt from the site:

May 2, 2005, We the People have a plan to remember that day, and to keep remembering it until we bring home our troops and begin to repair our damaged relationship with the rest of the world.

Read more: www.missionnotaccomplished.com

Just for this one day, we will not be complicit and we will speak truth to power. Please join us in any way you can.

This effort has not been bought by anyone. And it is being forwarded simply by those of us who know and are willing to say in plain English, as of May 2, 25, the mission was NOT accoomplished. And that these slogans, hijacking our support of our troops, are lies.

We will not buy into the destruction of either a foreign people or of our own state in the service of corporate interests. We will not agree to be the agents of our own corruption.

Peace.

I'm not a fluffy bunny type of person, not given to optimism at all, especially after the last 5 years. But I can't stop hoping. I'll swear to myself that I'll never give politics another thought, that it's not worth the despair and misery that I feel whenever I see the chimp's face on T.V. or read about his latest atrocity.

But then I'm drawn to this forum like I don't even have a choice in the matter, and I see people who are facing down that despair and misery, and even though I thought hope was dead, I start feeling it again.

Thanks to all of you who do what I can't!

latest article about Ohio's fraudulent election, I'm certain the truth cannot stay buried forever. I am absolutely believing and will never give up!

Good 11%
Fair 8%

216. How long can they not believe?
Not only is the election reform and fraud detection movement showing increasing vigor and visibility, many other of the high crimes and misdemeanors that have gone into putting this administration together are starting to rise out of the earth like zombies.

It's a thriller!

223. The DU Elections Creed: I believe in DU the Web Site almighty,
I believe in DU the Web Site almighty,
maker of forums and threads:
and in TIA, Amaryllis, Melissa G & garybeck, etc., its native Sons & Daughters,
who were conceived by the stolen election,
born of the Cyber Network,
suffered under Blackwell & Harris,
were flamed, stalked, and ignored.
They descended into hell on election day;
the third day they rose again from the shock;
they ascended into battle,
and sitteth on the right hand of Truth, Justice & The American Way;
from thence they shall come to judge the thick and the febble.
I believe in the Exit Polls;
the Conyers case for fraud;
the communion of USCountVotes.Org;
the forgiveness of nothing;
the resurrection of the electorate,
and honest elections everlasting.

Amen.

I believe that we will rise against this evil that has forced itself upon our nation. I believe the good people of our country will one day come to understand all the things that we know to be true.
And with loving compassion we will welcome them to the light.

229. I believe I smell...fear. And do I hear the sound of...flying monkeys?
These parasitic neocon bastards have shown their distain for the lessons of history.

They've even disparaged those of us who are members of "the reality-based community", saying that while we judiciously study reality, they create new ones through action, leaving us to forever play catch up as they forge ahead as powerful actors on the stage of history.

But...and this is a big "but"...

By ignoring the lessons of biology, they forget that if a parasite kills the host, it endangers its own survival. They've parasitized the American media, and by launching this planned attack against Newsweek, they've awakened the media to the fact that unless they expel this parasite, it will kill them. The media will thus begin to fight off the parasite. I predict that in the end, the Fourth Estate will survive, and the * adminstration will be mere medical waste.

By ignoring the laws of gravity, they've convinced themselves that they can blow things up, but no debris will fall back to earth.

And by ignoring the laws of karma (if I may use such a term to describe the cause-and-effect of behavior and its consequences), they have convinced themselves that they can lie, cheat, and steal, and that by spinning these behaviors as "getting the truth out", "having a muscular policy", and "taking responsibility for resources that come under our authority", they will, by dint of the force of their confidence and assertiveness, make it so.

Alas. It is not to be.

King Canute stood at the seashore and commanded the waves to cease and the tide to retreat. But it didn't work out that way.

Those who disparage "reality" should remember: they're soaking in it.

Now, the air is filled with the beating of the wings of the flying monkeys come to scare us into surrendering Dorothy, when in the end, it's only simple, clear water that will melt away this evil.

"What a world, what a world."

Shoulda paid attention to the obvious. It's called "history". It's called "reality". And it's called "morality".

They've declared themselves above it. But reality, history, and yes, morality, always get the last word.

Buh-bye.

Although * and his cohorts have shown an amazing talent for keeping the charade going, I think it is getting increasingly unmanageable.
