A STEAL ON THIS IDEA: A Bounty on Verifiable Democracy
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 11:45 AM by Land Shark
Who would like to setup a website featuring a US Map so people can click on their state and bid how much they would pay for verifiable democracy in that state, and to what charity or organization they would pay it?

The first credible volunteer can "steal" this idea.

You must agree to use the philosophy set forth at the post on verifiable democracy at:
<http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x325742>
Plus any needed clarifications and expansion on the concept needed will be provided for free by me.

Website should also prominently display totals for all states in which bids have been received, which states currently have unverifiable democracy, and the running total of all bounties posted in the United States, plus appropriate links for further information, and have enough bandwidth to handle heavy traffic.

PM me, or email if interested. All rights retained until someone agrees to follow their dream of making a nice website about restoring democracy (verifiably).

3. I have 150gb bandwidth but
have no idea if that handles heavy traffic. I only have two sites on there now that don't use much bandwidth. I have about 14gb space available and can add however many sites I want. Please let me/us know how much is needed for heavy traffic.

While I can handle general website functions and am pretty good setting up pages, I would need someone to set up the fancy stuff. I have the Gold package on this: http://www.hostdime.com/reseller.shtml and can use either Dreamweaver or FrontPage.

The space is just sitting there month after month so let me know if you need it and if it's what you're looking for. I'd be happy to help out any way I can.

4. Does anybody know how much bandwidth is needed?
This is one big reason why I want to give away this idea, lack of bandwidth (mentally) from me on website specs and web programming.

5. How do you propose this does not turn into another.....
"DU this poll" / "freep this poll", with similarly worthless results?

6. Dear paineinthearse:
This is not a "poll" with two or more options but a pledge of sorts. If the post is not a bona fide pledge but graffiti or whatever it would be removed. What's left is a meaningful collection with a high percentage of ones that would be performed, just like a public radio pledge (not 10% of course, but well over 50%)

Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 11:52 AM by keepthemhonest
of how much financial backing a verifiable democracy will get?So regular citizens can pledge $10(times however many regular citizens)this adds up to big bucks? Help me, understand the big picture so I can get more excited. I think I like the idea.
oh I just read you link to the other thread that went into more detail, so I think I am getting it now. Thanks definately will pledge.

10. Yes, any pledge amount fine, but please tell me if ...
there is anything wrong with the model or approach since I know everyone here care's deeply about democracy. Even tho I've said that a small pledge may be more meaningful than a big pledge, are people hesitant to put a specific tag on it, even tho the intent is to benefit charity and illustrate value, and not to nail down the final value of democracy for a given person?

12. I think it sounds like agreat idea
and will definately get the point across to the powers that be, that we have some capital to spend as well. Thanks for the ideas you have contributed so far and look forward to seeing more about the lawsuit tend of it as well.

9. I like this idea
and I think it needs a separate website ASAP as you describe, in order to evolve into something that could have an impact. This concept would be relatively easy to get going.

Would you want to break the goal of "verifiable democracy" down into smaller, time-sensitive goals specific for each state? Might make it more satisfying to see progress being made, no matter how small.
