Diebold PROMOTES open ATM software over "proprietary technology of past"
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 03:24 PM by Amaryllis
Straight from the Diebold website. Promotional material for their ATM software.

Open software is a SELLLING point for banking. But not for voting systems. Not only is it not a selling point, we are not allowed to access it in voting systems to verify proper recording and counting of our votes. And it is highly hackable. Anyone smell a rat?

"Agilis® is an open software platform -- which means it's based on technology that's widely known and used -- instead of the proprietary technologies of the past. Agilis takes advantage of leading, industry-standard technology like XFS service providers, TCP/IP, INvolve® middleware, and more -- and runs in the ubiquitous Windows® operating system."

3. yes you can say it here Andy
it's time we all stopped beating around the bush :)

Diebold is not a bunch of idiots, they're a bunch of thieves.

They didn't do their best and make a few mistakes, they purposely designed a system that could be used to steal the election.

no solution that involves partisan corporations in our election will suffice. diebold has to be taken out of the picture. they should be in jail.

and oh yeah, they can go f-ck themselves.

10. To Be Specific...

in GA it's a felony to rig the vote.. it's a misdemeanor for elections officials to work with poll workers who have not taken an oath.

we are going to name the criminals with GA codes to back it up and ask the folks in court to understand the importance of outsourcing, and how that ends up being a GA crime....

11. They make me ill and they're going to jail in good time
I can't wait for this bunch to reside in their jail cells for what they've done. They're gross and disgusting and I know in good time will pay for their crimes. Prison CAN'T COME FAST ENOUGH FOR THEM!!!

Waiting for the Impeachment WHILE THE SCANDALS KEEP UNFOLDING.

14. Don't confuse "open" with "open source"...
... this is merely standards-based software that the marketing departments of traditional proprietary software vendors like to refer to as "open". Actually, since it runs on the pernicious, I mean ubiquitous, Windows® operating system it is barely even standards-based.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source <== That is a definition of "open source" from the magnificent Wikipedia. This is what we should demand in voting systems software and the operating systems they use.

That quote from Diebold about their ATM software is nothing more than marketing jism and therefore makes a poor stick with which to beat Diebold about their criminally pathetic voting software. {Please pardon the mixed metaphors}.
