Why aren't elections held on weekends? Why must the polls close
to people obviously still standing in line while being told by the police; "the polls will be closing at 7:00 in some area's??

How can these rules be changed Mr. Kerry, Mrs. Clinton??

1. In other countries...
Election day is a holiday, or is a whole week. Both those alternatives would
be an improvement over our set-up.

2. How else are they going to keep turnout under 60%?
More people didn't vote last year than voted for Bush.

3. I said in another thread that turnout would be even worse if it were held
on the weekend.

If you think turnout is bad on Tuesday, just imagine what it would be like if you asked people to come out on Saturday or Sunday.

I can see it now: Election foiled by strong NFL match-ups - 30% turnout!

4. I think it should start on Saturday and end on Tuesday...
Give everybody a chance to get to the polls at a time convenient to them.

Ballots are paper & easy to read, large boxes next to the candidates name. Mark the box with a marker. Paper ballots are counted by local workers with lots of witnesses.

Winner is announced Tuesday nite.

The repukes lose.

5. Because the Repugs WANT low turnout
It's how they 'win' elections... or at least get them close enough to steal.

7. They could be held over two days on weekends.
But not just on Saturday or Sunday.

And at least in NY the polls are open as long as it takes to let everybody in line at 9 pm vote. (Show up after 9, and you shouldn't be allowed in line.)
