Scott Ritter says Iraq Election Was Rigged by the US
to prevent the theocratic Sunnis from getting a majority. Also predicts there's another war on the horizon with Iran by June.

2. Why am I not surprised?
Just like here. They wanted to make sure it goes their way. Business as usual for "US interests" to override the process and usurp a real election. Bush said he wasn't planning on invading Iran earlier. I knew then he was DEFINITELY going to do it. He just lies and lies and no one calls him on it.

3. You mean the Shias?
I know their percentage dropped dramatically late in the counting and that they were claiming the polls were wrong - they had predicted they would get 60% of the vote. They were thinking of challenging the results but decided not to.

4. Duh. Yes, and doesn't that 48% number sound familiar?
Don't know where I got Sunnis.

5. When I first heard that they were going to investigate..............
"discrepancies" I knew the fix was in.

We won't investigate discrepancies in our own country (whackos, conspiracy nuts etc.) but even the hint of a discrepancy in Iraq brings out the big guns.

I hope the Iraqis like the taste of 'bush style Democracy'. Complete civil war within 6 months.

Iran next? That's a no brainer, they've got oil reserves too.

6. Here's a link from several days ago......
From The Independent, reporting on the election in Iraq:

The election results will not become official for three days to allow for procedural challenges. The Shia coalition, which had been projecting that it would take 60 per cent of the vote, said it was meeting yesterday to discuss whether to challenge the numbers. "They will discuss it with the commission," said Jenan al-Obeidi, a candidate for SCIRI. "We think the votes are more than that."

7. And if one believes the Iraqis are independently choosing a leader
Al-Hayat reports that a decision on the new prime minister will not be announced until at least Wednesday. The decision was postponed in part because of Ashura, and in part because of the difficulty in getting a "green light" from Washington in the wake of Ambassador John Negroponte's appointment as intelligence czar. (US news sources have not spoken as openly of the need for a green light from Washington, but al-Hayat's sources are frank about it. This frankness agrees with the comment made by one embassy official that Iraq cannot select a prime minister who is unacceptable to Washington. (Posted by Juan Cole on 2/20/05)
