Each of the pending bills are listed, with a link to a http://www.govtrack.us/ page.
There you can click TEXT or pdf versions of each of the bills. Next to “Cosponsors” click on ‘show’ to see the list.
Other functions on the page, such as “Bill Tracking” I haven’t yet explored.

Uniformity at polls may be elusive
Parties sharply at odds over election reform

Washington -

-snip-

Lewis says both parties in Congress want to federalize different aspects of voting, depending on what their own "hot button" issues are.

-snip-

"The Democrats and Republicans are speaking past each other right now," says Richard Hasen, professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.

9. Hmmmm....
The article is informative. But they quote The Election Center, that
dubious organization that promotes auditless DREs...naturally they like the POST-2000 "reforms"...

-----------------
(excerpt)
"Lewis, of the Election Center, is skeptical about the need for sweeping changes, saying Congress should let the post-2000 reforms do their work.

"America is a pretty good laboratory," says Lewis. "If we could get a breather, if both sides would stand down, get us through the 2008 election without any major election changes, and then they want to re-evaluate it, that's OK."

In his view, the system is meant to be decentralized, and with some tweaking is adequate to the task.

But some experts make the opposing argument: that the system's crazy-quilt quality - with very different rules and standards in different states and communities, and election oversight in the hands of partisan officials - continues to invite disaster and endless litigation in a close presidential race.

"Our systems of election administration are not very good when it comes to having to count every vote accurately," says Hasen.

16. We GOTTA get Myth Breakers to all these people still operating under the
illusion that DREs are the only way to go for the disabled.
From Clinton bill:
‘‘(iii) satisfy the requirement of
clauses (i) and (ii) through the use of at 17
least one direct recording electronic voting 18
system or other voting system equipped for 19
individuals with disabilities at each polling 20
place;"

Myth Breakers gives a number of options for DREs, superior in EVERY way, that meet HAVA requirements. WHy does everyone think DREs are required for disabled?

18. I think a part might be...
There is a tendency to confuse a "Touch Screen" with a DRE.

Hence, to raise the issue of a Touch Screen brings either an endorsement (or indictment) of DRE's.

A "Touch Screen Ballot Marker" is not a "Touch Screen DRE".

15. I would have used Thomas
but the colons on the URL's ends don't work on DU for posting. (Though now I know how to use tinyurl.

Two point:

GovTrak gets their info from Thomas, and tell us to use Thomas as the "official".

There is a Bill Tracking feature on GovTrak that might help us keep an eye on things.
