Answer to election reform is obvious and pretty easy- citizen initiative

Those in contol like things the way they are, and are virtually impossible for the "public" to influence other than by vote.

But the majority of the public support real election reform, and even more will when the magnitude of the fraud and manipulation in the 2004 election is publicized. (its not a matter of opinion)

Its not that hard to organize and get an initiative measure on the ballot in most states, and thats exactly what needs to be done. Have forums to decide what should be included in the election reform package, and organize drives in as many states as possible to get the election reform package on the ballot.

See action plan in:

1. I agree - citizens initiative.
You know, this is our America... We are America. I find it humerus/disgusting that we allow our government to dictate how we elect our public officials.

We are the ones that should dictate how we elect our officials. There can be only be one right answer on voting rights - 100 percent honest, fair, and verifiable.

2. Citizen Initiatives
It would be great if there was a way to connect people who want to get involved with citizen initiatives in the way that people can link up through MeetUp.
I would like to see an initiative in Michigan to stop the practice, (called Deep Well Injection), where toxic wastes are being pumped into the ground as a means of disposal. That poison is going to surface sooner or later.
Verified Voting and Instant Runoff Voting are two more that I would like to see in Michigan.

3. So organize a Meetup; and etc.
assign tasks among those interested
1. Documentation of Fraud & Irregularities in 2004 election
such as http://www.flcv.com/ussumall.html

2. proposals for election reform from the various states, organizations
3. documentation of touchscreen unreliability and high cost
http://www.votersunite.org messups, mythbreakers, states
verifiedvoting.org

4. publicity

5. networking/group contact info

etc.

try to find people to organize meetups in all the main population centers/ and form chapters there to move toward a product to gather
signatures for.

Groups like Common Cause, Greens, LWV, NAACP, etc. might help
perhaps even the Dems(though you might not want them officially due to partisan stigma)

4. Do you have a list of states which allow initiative petitions?
I think this idea came into being around the time that the Dakotas wrote constitutions, and is prevalent only in western states. Who knows this off hand?

I once filed one in Oregon. It took only 25 signatures to file, then the work begins gathering signatures. The Internet might be a powerful tool today to do same, especially if a PDF could be used so anyone can sign on and mail in their petition.

There is a learning curve regarding the regulations, different in every state. If they are not adhered to closely, the petition becomes invalid (often the whole sheet).

They also influence who votes!!
