Electile Dysfunction movie controversy
Hi everyone,
There have been a lot of questions about the movie "Electile
Dysfunction." So far, these have all been one-sided as Penny Little feels that this issue should be discussed in private by the people involved in the dispute over the control of the movie and not in public on DU.
If people from "the public" have questions about the movie and the
controversy surrounding it, please email me directly (lara@openvoting.org) and I will forward the emails to Penny so she can answer your questions when she has time.
As someone who has seen the movie many times and has been working as an activist for a while now in the Election Reform movement, this movie is excellent and will be an excellent tool to get more people interested, educated, and involved in this very important issue. I can't wait for the movie to be completed and come out so you all can see it. :)

Lara :)

1. Lara, it's my opinion
that answering the questions only in private will add to confusion and controversy.

It would be best if Penny would make a public statement in response to the accusations. Otherwise people will continue to talk about it and wonder what the truth is.

Just my opinion :)

2. what do other people think?
What do other DUers think about this? Penny does not want to offend anyone or inflame this issue. On the other hand, it would be great if her story got out so that people had all of the information before they made judgements about her and her movie.

Please comment and let me know what you think.

3. I'm losing track of all the Election Reform In-fights
I wonder if anyone could interview each side, and write a report.

When people tell "their side of the story", it can often get off track to include things that, while emotionally significant to the party, shed little light on the issues.

I've read good reports about about some of the footage, etc. But between the adolescent title and tiff, I'll just pass for now.

4. Electile Dysfunction: My Response
I went to a local showing of Electile Dysfunction in Santa Cruz. From what I saw I think it is an excellent film and puts the US elections fraud and fiasco into sharp perspective. I wish the whole country could get to see this movie and got aware of the dysfunctional state of 'democracy' here. They took to the streets in the Ukraine and forced the issue because of obvious election fraud. The theft was equally apparent here and what did we do? Nothing.

I understand one party has taken preemptive legal action against another. This is sad. This is not the way progressives and liberals are going to ever win if they resort to internal bickering and squabbling when there are real enemies out there to fight, like Karl Rove and the Bush government.

5. I agree, that's why I think it's best
to get each sides' story out so we can move on. If one side is making accusations and the other side won't respond, there certainly is an appearance that there is something to the accusations. saying something publically would help, unless there really is something to hide.

Maybe Penny would agree to an interview. I think it could be primarily focused on the release of the movie but some questions could also cover the controversy. Brad Friedman would probably be interested in doing the interview, or someone from BuzzFlash, or I would do it at SolarBus.

10. "The theft was equally apparent here...". No, it wasn't.
In the Ukraine, they could see the unpolluted exit poll data and compare it with the official results. Here, the TV networks CHANGED the exit poll data (Kerry won)--altering it to fit the official result (Bush won)--late on election day, thus depriving Americans of this strong evidence of fraud. This is one of the biggest journalistic crimes our news monopolies have ever committed. There was absolutely no reason to do what they did. In fact, with a brand new electronic voting system being used nationwide for the first time, the situation cried out for verification by exit polls. That's what exit polls are used for, worldwide--to verify elections and check for fraud. Not here.

The REAL exit poll data did NOT verify the official result. It completely contradicted it, and, as we know now, it contradicted the official result in a particular way (with the official result favoring Bush in certain states) that numerous experts in statistics have found to be virtually impossible. (One group of statisticians has put the odds against this weird exit poll/official result discrepancy at 10 million to one.)

The American public was lied to--AGAIN. The news monopolies then compounded that lie by suppressing all of the Ohio and other election fraud information, and killing any discussion of these matters, including John Conyers' investigative hearings and the Jan. 6 challenge of the Ohio result in Congress.

So, I don't agree with your statement: "The theft was equally apparent here and what did we do? Nothing."

Most Americans don't know the truth about the 2004 election to this day. And those of us who do know are not doing nothing! We're doing EVERYTHING WE CAN to inform and mobilize people.

7. I saw this entertaining, informative movie, and it's a shame

that its release is tainted with disagreements. It needs more expert attention, although it is definitely worth watching and includes many fascinating interviews.

I agree with garybeck that the best thing would be if we could get the disputes out into the open so that the two parties could go back to working on the film, if possible.
