What was the voter turnout for Sensenbrenner's 5th District?
A caller to Air America Radio yesterday said that he lived in Sensenbrenner's district "which had a 97 percent voter turnout favoring Bush in the last election."

His point was that there was no hope of voting him out of office because the district was so Republican.

My ears perk up whenever I hear of unusually high voter turn-outs.

Was he exaggerating?

2. Statewide it was 97.63%
Impressive, no?

There was a conviction in Wisconsin this year for at least one person who was forging absentee ballots.

Sensenbrenner won his district with 70% of the vote, which seems unbeatable, but in 2002 he won with 88%, so the trend looks good.

4. I live in the Midwest and I can't tell you how many Republicans...
...were furious with Bush, saying that they wouldn't be voting for a Republican for president for the first time in their lives.

7. Turnout might have been high, but Bush's share was not 97%
don't know turnout but sensenbrenner won by about a 68-32 margain. bush probably by a similar margain, i'd bet. it's a very repub district.
