Election Assessment Hearing: An OPEN INVITATION to DUers
Dear DUers,

As you know, the Baker-Carter Commission on Federal Election Reform is having its second PRIVATE hearing at the James Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University in Houston, Texas, on Thursday, June 30th. Unfortunately, that commission stands firm on a closed agenda and has refused requests to testify by Rep. John Conyers, David Cobb, and a score of others knowledgeable experts in the matters of election disenfranchisement, voter suppression, digital voting systems, and election reform. To date, the B-C Commission has preferred to focus primarily on such topics as a national ID card, deceased voters still on voter registration rolls, electronic voting for disabled voters, and centralized voter registration. This past week, Mr Paster called a last minute meeting with a very short list of hand-picked election reform activist organizations to allow them to present, not before the Commission, but in a Common Cause back room. It is the view of some that Paster is trying to: a) defuse the Election Assessment Hearing; and/or B) attempting to split the movement between reform activists and fraud investigators.

This last week it came to my attention that: a) John Conyers would testify at the B-C hearing on June 30; and, conversely, b) Conyers' staff says they are reluctant to accept our invitation to Rep. Conyers to testify before the EAH because they do not want to lend any credence to the B-C commission, even in juxtaposition, because the B-C commission has jerked Conyers around badly and they (Conyers' staff) consider the B-C commission to be a complete fraud.

This last week, the day before the Paster/Common Cause meeting in D.C., the EAH received a probing inquiry from the B-C commission asking how they might receive input from us. Oddly, their response to our positive response has been... silence.

QUESTIONS:
Is the EAH now irrelevant? Is it time to have the movement split apart into two factions? Shall we rely on the good intentions of the B-C commission?

MY RESPONSE: HELL NO!

The EAH is stirring worry sufficiently to cause contravening action by the B-C commission. What are they worried about?

We will reveal the truth about digital voting
We will document clear electoral abuses directed against the American people that denied the will of the people being expressed
We will speak of F-R-A-U-D
We will speak of REAL reform

No wonder the B-C commission is worried.

Evey able bodied DUer is invited to attend the Election Assessment Hearing in Houston on June 29th; to participate in delivering our information to the B-C commission on the 30th (after all, they SAY they want it!); to join me in responding: HELL NO!

Best regards,

Kip Humphrey

6. Please help! Anyone got video of 1st hearing?
It was on c-span for a while. I never did see it. I only read characterizations of it. anyone know where it video is now, or if any sites are hosting it? I don't think the B-C commission site has it (please correct me if I'm wrong). The link from B-C commission worked at one point, but doesn't work now. Please help, i'd like to watch first hand, and it would be good for us to brush up on our homework to be ready for the 2nd round.
