Governor to take pen to bills altering state's elections laws
Jun 19, 2005

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Gov. Jeb Bush is expected to sign three elections bills on Monday that would raise a spending cap for gubernatorial candidates to $20 million and limit early voting to eight hours on weekdays and weekends over a 15-day period before Election Day.

However, Bush is pondering another measure (HB 1673) that would eliminate the runoff primary election, which catapulted some of the state's most renowned politicians into office.

"The legislation the governor is signing will help ensure Floridians have a fair and accurate election," Bush spokesman Jacob DiPietre said Sunday. "This is another step as Florida continues to build on our historic elections reform."

But there are concerns about some of the changes.

1. If Jeb Bush is willing to sign this it can not be good for the state
or our elections.

4. Yep, cut back that Early Voting
Wonder why Jeb would want to do that? EV in Florida was a big success. We need more polling places and more time for EV, not less. Can't imagine why Jeb would want to cut back on such a thing?

Actually, I do know why. KERRY WON the Early Voting in FLORIDA, that's why.

Jeb much prefers absentee ballots, they're so much easier to forge.
