Julie Carr Smyth
Plain Dealer Bureau

Columbus- The Franklin County elections board suspended its director Monday for his handling of a $10,000 check from a representative of voting-machine company Diebold.

Elections director Matthew Damschroder, a Republican, was suspended without pay for 30 days. He will continue to work, but he will be docked five days' pay for six two-week pay periods, said board Chairman Bill Anthony.

Damschroder has said he accepted a $10,000 check from Diebold political consultant Pasquale "Pat" Gallina on county property and later delivered it to the Franklin County Republican Party.

"Matt's done a good job for us," said Anthony, a Democrat. "And I don't believe that Matt had that guy in there in order to take the bribe in order to push Diebold. I just don't believe it. He made an error in judgment."...

1. Chair of Franklin Cty Dems DEFENDS Bribery recipient INSTEAD OF CALLING
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 06:54 AM by mod mom
FOR A FULL INVESTIGATION OF DIEBOLD BRIBES?

Hmmh...I'm not a rocket scientist, but,

INSTEAD OF OH DEMS CALLING FOR FULL INVESTIGATION INTO BRIBES THEY ARE DEFENDING THE THUGS !!!! Sorry for the shout but this tells it all:

"Matt's done a good job for us," said Anthony, a Democrat. "And I don't believe that Matt had that guy in there in order to take the bribe in order to push Diebold. I just don't believe it. He made an error in judgment."...

This from the Chairman of the Franklin County Dem Party, Bill Anthony.

By the way Mr Anthony has his office at the Ohio Dem Party HQ in Columbus, where a recent "break-in" (NOT REALLY A BREAK-IN SINCE THE THIEVES WENT THROUGH AN OPEN WINDOW) stole sensitive computers from Denny White's Office (Chair of the Ohio Dem Party)

WAKE-UP GOV DEAN!!! Something is fishy in Ohio!

2. The Ohio Dem Party is super-lame
They didn't even support their own gubernatorial candidate last time, for instance. I just pretend they don't exist.

3. Same Bill Anthony who got all huffy when accused of complicity in
vote suppression relating to the misallocation of voting machines.

He was like, "How DARE you?", then he got the vapors and fainted.

Bang-up job he's been doing there in Ohio. Maybe he's got his eye on being the next Ken Blackwell, when he finally tires of pretending to support Democrats.

6. Doesn't SOS Katherine Blackwell appoint all county election officials?
That has been stated often here on DU. I have no other source for that statement. It would explain why Ohio seems to have so many Democratic county election officials who were complicit in the 2004 election theft. Can a Ohio DUer confirm or refute this statement?

7. they serve at his "pleasure" but my question is not BOE but state party
appointments, like chairman of the Franklin Party Dem Party (now Bill anthony).

It is my understanding that each party nominates people for BOE positions but the SOS has final say. (And it came out during the House Administration Hearing in Columbus last March that Michael Vu (Dem from Cuyahoga County felt Blackwell was threatening his job)

8. County BOE members are chosen by their local parties and
appointed by Blackwell at the recommendation of those parties. The parties vote on BOE members through their Central Committe members which are elected by the voters.

Hocking County (Ohio) Central Committee members asked for the resignation of their Democrats In Name Only (Dino) board members, but they will not resign. They have stated Blackwell is the only one that can fire them. This is being investigated.

9. I wonder about that too
Maybe they aren't really democrats. Or maybe they're DLCers who were easily bought. I don't know. I have heard of cases where a person runs for office as a democrat but once they're in office they changed it to republican. I can't remember where this was at but I heard about it earlier this year.

10. The Ohio Dem organization is a hollow shell
and thus Kenny Boy may do with it as he wishes in this regard.
