Ohio Second Congressional District Voting Machines (thanks to Stuart for calls to county boards and other research):

"Executive summary: Brown County will be using a new precinct-count optical-scan system, Clermont County will be using their old central-count optical-scan system, and the five other counties voting in tomorrow's OH2 election will be using their old punch-card systems:

Adams County (35 precincts) will be using their 2004 machines (punch card). They have received new machines, which are expected to be checked out by someone from the Secretary of State office this Thursday or Friday, and they plan to use the new machines in November.

Brown County (35 precincts) used punch cards in 2004, but will be using new optical scan machines in the Aug 2 special election. I believe the new system is precinct-count optical-scan (PCOS), where voters have one machine available in each precinct to allow the voter to check validity of the ballot, which should reduce the possibility of overvotes and undervotes (which should be highly unlikely in a contest with only two candidates for a single office, but who knows what might be possible when write-ins are allowed).

Clermont County (191 precincts) will use the same setup as in 2004, with voters marking optical-scan ballots in each precinct, and all ballots being counted at the board offices, using four optical-scan readers.

Hamilton County (319 precincts in special primary; 1,013 precincts in 2004 general election) had a voice-mail system with a wait for a live person to talk to, so I am assuming that they will still use the punch card system used in 2004.

Pike County (24 precincts) will be using punch cards, as in 2004. They have received new machines which have been checked out, and expect to use them for the November election.

Scioto County (106 precincts) will be using punch cards, as in 2004. They have decided to use optical scan in future elections, and that might be possible by November.

Warren County (79 precincts in special primary; 157 precincts in 2004 general election) will be using punch cards, as in 2004."

1. Well, this is somewhat encouraging, no? How are they tabulating?

Are there activists there keeping an eye on them? This is the first test of "presence" since 2004. If Hackett's scared, as I read recently, he's got a lot of good people to show up and shine a bright light on things. I hope this happens.
