I thought he'd abandoned us months ago. How can you abandon someone when you've already abandoned them?

Even after I'd remind folks about the Ohio lawsuit, I'd still here "He promised to count every vote! Where is he?!"

So why be surprised?

He's just doing what everyone already said he did, right?

I mean, you can't have it both ways, can you? Either he abandoned you months ago, and folks have been berating him ever since. Or he's abandoning you now (possibly) and getting berated for it.

As for me, I have to admit, if it's true, I will miss saying "But what about the lawsuit in Ohio still pending" whenever I'd encounter someone saying "He promised to count every vote! He's a coward! He abandoned us! Iiiiieeeee!!!!"

Don McTigue. Kudos to him if his job is now done. Thanks dude. I won't have to remember your name anymore, but thanks.

1. Exactly - thanks for the post!
I'm with you, I will miss being able to say "but the lawsuit is still pending".

:hi:

3. I don't know all the facts here, but it's common to abandon something
yet still keep a purely symbolic presence or activity alive which is not inconsistent with the abandonment.

Ever know anyone who was still married yet the marriage was dead and abandoned, no one working on it?

nuf said, i hope.

4. Which is speculation of course
And I still want Kerry's side. All we're getting is Cobb, and I don't worship at the man's temple. His perception could always be wrong.

5. true, but you set up two positions as inconsistent that aren't
1. not being committed to election fraud
2. presence as an named or intervening party in litigation for certain defined purposes

Kerry can be made to pay a high price personally that few other people have to pay for involvement in an issue and i think the calculations around that reality explain the facts so far. Candidates are among the VERY LAST people who will raise these kinds of concerns because of vitriolic and permanent "Sore loser" attacks that are sure to follow, yet candidates are also invested with the primary powers to challenge results; .

this is yet another deficiency in the structure of elections vis a vis monitoring their integrity. both the government itself and the candidates are often poor guardians of democracy for understandable reasons. the public itself needs to be represented and enabled.

7. I see what you're saying. False dichotomy
But I am of the opinion that as invisible as his effort was, he didn't even have to do that much. He could have said "fuck it" to the whole thing, and only a small minority would have even known he'd done that.

But he didn't. And I've never felt like he got even alittle credit for doing what he DID do. So now, I am still not passing judgement with only half the story.

But you're right, the cost is there. I honor then that he even stuck his toe in the water. Many wouldn't have. Picture Biden, for instance.

The public needs to be represented, it's true. But I think that by becoming an organized force, we empower ourselves in the system.

And THAT, friends and neighbors, is why I harp on unity. We can't afford primary wars. Oh, I don't mean discussing candidates. I mean the "I'm kicking this to piss off so and so's supporters" type stuff I saw yesterday. I mean, really. We're on the same side. And if we hope to empower and enable ourselves, we'd better remember that.

6. Kerry may be passing
us "we the people" the torch, he has done everything he can its up to us to get it done. We can Worry about the last election and focus on the next one, we have to fight to STOP THE CORPORATE VOTE COUNTING MACHINES.

We know all we need to know about how they can manipulate the vote totals with the machines, and we sit here debating about Kerry or Bev.

As it stands they are able to steal our votes ,lets not let it happen again. FIGHT FIGHT!

8. He took a powder then...
...and he is taking a powder now.

...JFK II thinks he is keeping his political options open...what a rube.

...to quote a Great Texas Governor (no, not the fool...Ann Richards)..."put a fork in him...he's done"!

9. Sorry, you have to pick one
He either took a powder then, and so has nothing to take a powder from now. Or vice versa.

You can't say he did nothing then, because he wouldn't have anything to quit now if that was the case. Ya know?

10. Nope...
...stuff developed in the interim. So he CAN walk away from both the original Cause Celebre and the current situation. Either way you are dragging a dead horse to water and you still can't make him drink.

11. Cause Celebre my ass
do you realize how many people DIDN'T know about all these Ohio issues? And still don't? It wasn't harming him to stay, it wasn't helping him to stay, it won't hurt him to go, it won't help him to go.

It's too invisible an issue for that.
