Should HAVA be delayed?

I had an interesting afternoon. From noon to 2pm I handed out fliers @ a Pathmark for the September 24th Anti War protest in DC.

Then I went online and had an interesting exchange with John Gideon of votersunite.
Basically John explained to me in a way that I have to agree with, that I was reading the NASED list of qualified voting equipment a little bit wrong. Now I hate being wrong, it pisses me off to no end. But John Gideon made sense to me.

Then I traded emails with Bill bored-- I asked him what he thought about asking to delay HAVA --and he pointed out to me something I had forgotten-- Why Give the vendors more time to to their nasty dirty evil work--- and ya know--- I think Bills a smart guy-- and hes right--

SO heres the bad news-------

So it seems that Indeed Diebold has a DRE, as does ES&S. that is certified under the 2002 Voluntary voting system standards.

2002 certied DREs

Hart Intercivic eSlate DRE
Diebold TSx DRE
Accupoll DRE
Liberty DRE
ES&S iVotronic DRE

And in September I expect the Avante Full face DRE to be certified to the 2002 VVSS.

But heres the not really that bad news-------

Only HAVA compliant voting machines are eligible for Federal money under HAVA.
And only HAVA complaint voting machines can be used in federal elections after jan 1st, 2006. In many cases HAVA is more stringent than the 2002 VVSS. So 2002 VVSS certification is not an indicator of a voting machine's being HAVA compliant.
