Lone Star Iconoclast: Arcata Leads Way With Voter Confidence Resolution
This is so good. This is the Crawford, TX paper that refused to endorse * for re-election last year. The article is basically a transcript of the interview I did. Only flaws: Humboldt County is called Humble County, and the Consent of the Governed, which I refer to as the Voter Confidence Resolution's macro-frame, is instead called the micro-frame. Boo-hoo. This is so good. Towards the end I plug the upcoming Portland conference and I also mention the Houston Election Assessment Hearing. Please spread this around!

Arcata City, Calif. Establishes
Model Voter Confidence Resolution
For Nation’s Cities To Follow

By W. Leon Smith
Editor-In-Chief, The Iconoclast

September 12, 2005 10:21 PM

ARCATA, Calif. — Voter confidence has plummeted during the past two presidential elections with corporate-owned voting machine tabulations in question from coast to coast. Several organizations have advocated changes in the voting system, but one city is taking it a step further. The City of Arcata, Calif., after months of debate and consideration, has adopted what is called the Voter Confidence Resolution.

According to Dave Berman, one of the resolution’s authors, this type of initiative, if adopted by cities throughout the country, could have a decisive impact on the confidence voters achieve by providing unquestionable election returns.

“But we must first change the national dialogue,” he said.

Berman is aggressively taking his case to the people, conducting workshops, keynoting speaking engagements, and asking cities throughout the country to seriously push this agenda.

(much more...)

1. Great stuff. This sums it up nicely.
Parallel to the process of ending election fraud before each election cycle, this resolution offers a means of cities saying, no mas, we've had it.

I think that it will exceed the number of cities that offered resolutions atains tthe Patriot Act, and that was quite a few.

This one has legs...and great write up by the Crawford paper.

3. DU is ignoring it, but lots of sites are linking to this interview
At least once a week I like to Google "Voter Confidence Resolution." On August 9, I posted a handful of links I found this way, including an endorsement by Bev Harris at Black Box Voting. Today I was amazed to discover how many sites have linked to the Lone Star Iconoclast's transcript of the interview I did with Editor-in-Chief W. Leon Smith. Check it out:
Fair Vote.org
VotersUnite!
https://www.eff.org/Activism/E-voting/+%22voter+confidence+resolution%22&hl=en">Electronic Frontier Foundation
Voting Integrity Project
TrueVoteMD
nov2truth.org
CA Clean Money Campaign
In addition, I also discovered the Palo Alto, CA Human Relations Commission had the Voter Confidence Resolution on its agenda (.pdf) this past Wednesday, Sept 14. It is not clear if this is based upon the template language developed on the GuvWurld Blog and adopted (.pdf) by Arcata, CA but here I found contact info for the commission members who I will attempt to reach on Monday.
