1. Wow! Talk about gubmint 'double speak'.
"To review and approve draft documents that will form the bases for recommendations for future voluntary voting system guidelines.

Voluntary guidelines are just that, "voluntary". They hold NO legal weight. Don't get me wrong, it's important to get the information about how best to protect our elections out there any way we can, but they should be codified as part of our laws, and not just be "voluntary guidelines".

This reminds me of something I read on another web site.

"IMPORTANT NOTICE...FORTHCOMING...."

"We plan to meet next week to talk about planning a strategy session to
discuss the next step towards forming a consensus to start the development
of the rough draft for the implementation of our intention to develop a
plan."

Yep, that'll work. :)

2. NIST voluntary guidelines have legal weight , if STATES codify
in their state codes that those voluntary guidelines are mandatory. I think states have done just that, but don't know which ones off the top of my head. Need some help on that, someone.

3. Jim, I've wondered about that.
I recently heard that even after a state accepts the VVSG, they can and do decide to pick and choose among the requirements.

Could you guide me to the relevant law?
