2. The most significant underpinning of a democracy is honest
elections. We most definitely do not have that. Therefore we do not have democracy, which is made evident by the events of the past five years.

3. Sorry folks, I got through about half of the first part, and had to quit!
I CAN'T stand this BS anymore! I've always been pretty good at figuring out solutions to the most complex problems, but this one is way beyond my abilities!

I'm so damn depressed, I can't believe it! I've been looking at other countries to move to. I don't want to live in this Country anymore!

I don't even think electing Dems can help...things are just too far gone!

Great summary of the past two elections.

This "Michelle Mairesse" has done a great job.

9. REsponse to post three and four: Sorry, folks, didn't want to bum
anyone out...it was too good not to post as far as providing a wealth of info all compiled into one place. I truly feel we are reaching the hundredth monkey point, or the tipping point, if you prefer. We are seeing articles daily now, many from MSM about election issues.Maybe we can reach critical mass in time...

cancer without it. Thanks for the post, an excellent presentation of the information, especially for people new to it.

12. The problem is there is no cure.
Eventually, the truth will hurt us all. All measures taken will be painful-- even peaceful resistance.

19. Post number 15. I copied it. Here:

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall - think of it, ALWAYS.” - Gandhi

If we give up, we are beat and they've won. As long as we don't give up, there is still hope of turning it around. We've made a lot of progress and it is mushrooming now.

And I will never forget nor forgive what they have done to our country. I love Gandhi's words and actions but I often struggle to truly believe. :grouphug:

18. oh, no....
Exit polls are so accurate that the variation between the final vote count and the sampling is plus or minus one tenth of one percent. To the consternation of Edison/Mitofsky, the discrepancy between the presidential exit polls and the final published vote tally was far beyond the margin for error, over two points. A two percent variation between exit polls and final tallies is simply mind-boggling to statisticians. Whenever such a variation occurs anywhere else in the world (say, Latin-America or Ukraine), election watchers immediately declare the vote count fraudulent.

This will fit nicely in my upcoming paper on exit poll fundamentalism.

Dammit, people, this is wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. While TIA and I rarely agree, he too would tell you that "plus or minus one tenth of one percent" is bogus. That's just one thing that is wrong here.

Yes, it makes me angry that I come here for information, and people post stuff that is wrong, and cheer it. I don't understand why it doesn't make more people angry. It would not be much harder to write stuff that is right, so why don't we do that instead? I don't get it.

Good night, and good luck.

26. still looking for a way to qualify this...
A lot of the material is fine, and I don't mean to disparage that substance.

But to the extent that this board functions as an information clearinghouse, I would think it would be important to sort out the good information from the bad information. I really don't understand why that seems to be a minority view.

The overall thrust of the second essay is, 'It's clear to experts that Kerry won the popular vote,' and that is bad information. Many of the details are demonstrably bad information as well. Not only haven't exit polls generally been accurate within 0.1%, but the claim flies in the face of even the most optimistic interpretation of statistical theory. There were multiple Ukraine exit polls, which didn't agree with each other within 0.1%. Ohio was not an "electronic voting" state in common parlance. Etc., etc.

23. Nice find!
Gee, I can't believe I've never run across this Michelle Mairesse.

Anybody know who she is?

She really packed a lot of info in there.

The site is rather elusive though -- no easy to find contact info.

My only real bone to pick is this one, stunningly wrong statement:

HAVA does mandate that a single disabled-accessible device, a paperless, direct recording electronic machine (like Diebold's), be installed in every precinct in the United States.

This is the crap that people like Doug Lewis and the vendors themselves have parroted, often and everywhere. It is NOT true. A close reading of HAVA reveals that a single accessible device is required in every precinct -- however, it is not required to be electronic -- just accessible for the disabled.

Other, non-electronic means of providing accessibility do exist. Vote-PAD is one.

All in all, though, I'd give her at least an A-, for comprehensiveness.

24. Would a bit of "constructive critisism" be accepted?
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 11:53 PM by troubleinwinter
The very large bolded font is hard on the eyes... I just couldn't sit and read it. I decided to print it out. BUT white text does not print. Just Section 1 is 33 printed pages at that huge font, even if it would print. (So I copied it into word and got blank pages until I changed all of the text from white to black, then changed to a more standard font size and got it down to 16 pages, from 33 to print)

It looks like something I want very much to read, study, and pass along. If it were in a more reasonable font/text size/color, it could be more readable online and printable.

You have done so much work, I think it is important to format it so that it is readable and printable. I don't wish to critisize, but to offer an idea to make it easier to print and share with others.

Thank you, thank you for this!

EDIT: Huh? Screwy me? I thought this was your work. Uhhh. Well, thank you for it anyway!

29. Is that really the butterfly ballot they used in Palm Beach County in 2000
Did anyone see the ballot Ms. LePore designed? Because the image displayed
is so ridiculous it has to be a joke. If she did that, she should have been run out of the US flanked by rabid dogs! :wtf:

An actual image (well, AFAIK) appears on this page:
http://www.asktog.com/columns/042ButterflyBallot.html
So, the good news is, you don't have arrows pointing in every direction. The bad news is, many of the arrows don't actually point at holes. Sigh.

(EDIT: Warning: I think there is at least one un-fact on the page linked above: AFAICT there were not 14,000 under(yawn) overvotes in Palm Beach County in 1996. Sorry, I was just looking for the picture.)

lining up. Thanks for clearing up that mystery.
