Meet Blackwell's Democratic opponent

Strickland says he's the fighter who can win governor's job

By JIM TANKERSLEY
BLADE POLITICS WRITER

A young man walked up to Ted Strickland shortly after a candidate forum this week in Canton. He identified himself as a Republican, shook Mr. Strickland’s hand, and delivered a quick but harsh message.

“You’ve got to add details to your answers,” said the Republican, Matt Miller, who is an Ashland County commissioner. He added: “You could win this.”

This is life for Mr. Strickland, a congressman from southern Ohio and the Democratic front-runner in the governor’s race. Democrats and Republicans alike say they want more answers from him. Many also call him the favorite in the general election.

Mr. Strickland detailed positions on a wide range of issues in an interview this week. He accused one Republican gubernatorial candidate of “rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic” and called the other “an alarming person.” He dismissed Bryan Flannery, a former state legislator also running in the May 2 Democratic primary, as irrelevant.

The congressman said he would veto an abortion ban similar to South Dakota’s, sign a civil unions bill for gays, and reject a ban on state contracts for campaign donors.

4. Thank YOU, MissWaverly!
:hi:

I'm going to have to wait until the end of the month to become Ted's friend. I can't think of a better cause/candidate to donate to right now.

5. Blackwell has no business even running for office - remember recount??

10. yes, 3 officials have been indicted over the recount
But are they going to hold it again, NOT. Of course not, just because people performed
indictable offenses is no reason not to rubberstamp the results especially for the
Greedy Old Pirates, aka GOP

8. Unfortunately, The Dems are not even discussing the GAO Report. This is
what Fitrakis is talking about. Why the Dem Party thinks this time the GOP (who have the possibility of facing subpoena power if they lose) will play fair, especially when they controll all those HAVA dollar purchased shiney new voting machines, is beyond me. If Strickland and the Dems won't do it-then Bob Fitrakis will.

11. As a candidate, Fitrakis can do a lot
he can request a recount, he can raise issues in the debates. the people of Ohio MUST give Fitrakis the platform and voice he deserves. Whether he can win or not is not the primary question. He needs to be in on the debates.

12. It really sucks that we have to get 5 X the number of signatures as
Blackwell and Strickland. That why he is in the race, because the Dems need to address the moral issues of our day: the environment, the war, the fraudulent elections, social justice and equality, livable wages. Most Dems believe these values but unfortunately the party chooses to favor the corporate $.

7. I cannot believe that Blackwell would be allowed to run an election...
in which he is running. And this is like I could not believe that as Bush's campaign chairman in 2004, Blackwell also was running the election.

Do Ohioans not understand the concept "conflict of interest"? Why are they letting this creep getting away with this stuff?
