Utah County Clerk Under Attack for Questioning Diebold Machines
Kpete, did not see ELECTION THREAD but thought I would post this:

Utah County Clerk Under Attack for Questioning Diebold Machines
by Clifflyon
Tue Mar 28, 2006 at 11:45:21 AM PDT
I just got off the phone with Utah Emery County Clerk Bruce Funk who is under fire for bringing to light his concerns about the Diebold voting machines delivered to his office. He is a soft spoken man and a classic patriotic American in the Utah tradition. As I write this, he documenting the events of last night (which I will post) in which Utah State Officials came down to Emery County and excluded Bruce from a series of closed door meetings with Diebold officials and county commissioners after which Bruce was encouraged to resign.

“They made me a pretty nice offer if I resign, but then I thought, no, if I resign, then what kind of person am I after all these years of protecting our voting rights”.

Thankfully, Bruce is completely unaware of the kind of tactics that have been used against whistleblowers in other states who have dared to expose the myriad of technical and ethical problems with the way Diebold machines have been shoved down out throats.

Utah biggest daily, the Salt Lake Tribune quoted Funk:

Diebold's $40,000 estimate is exaggerated to frighten other clerks from questioning the machines' integrity, Funk said. "What they are really saying is, 'We don't want anyone else to think of doing this.'

Commissioner Ira Hatch said Emery County will go forward with the Diebold machines.”. "We've decided we are going have Diebold come and go through these machines and see if they are compromised," he said, adding the company may be able to work with them on reducing the cost.

4. Bruce Funk is Republican - Integrity is non-partisan
The County Clerk for Salt Lake County (the largest county in Utah), Sherry Swensen, is a democrat and has been pushing Diebold machines for years. It's really important that we recognize who are the real election reform activists, no matter what color their stripes are. Utah has a small group of progressive democrats, independents, greens, libertarians and one republican working for election reform, but not one mainstream democrat in Utah has publicly stepped forward to oppose the black boxes. If I'm wrong on that, PM me -- let's get to work!

10. Hey, kpete, I just added this thread to my list of resources for
American Revolution II, and I changed the title to "Utah county clerk fights back."

It works as well as clifflyon's downer title, "Utak county clerk under attack...".

But there is a great psychological advantage to stating it in the positive. Another hero steps up to the plate!

The text reveals that Bruce Funk has resisted the temptation to resign. "...if I resign, then what kind of person am I after all these years of protecting our voting rights”.

He's fighting back! That should be the news!
