BIG day in Anchorage, Alaska ~ Tuesday, April 4th ~ 2006 Mayor's Race!
And with all of the Diebold problems we encountered during the '04 U.S. Senate and Presidential election... I am a little concerned.

We have an extremely popular Mayor, born and raised in Anchorage with a 70-something % approval rating. He's a Democrat, but unlike the Republican Mayor before him, when he took office, he evaluated each of his top muni-positions (fire chief, police chief, etc....) and allowed people of all political persuasions to remain in in their jobs depending on how well they had been conducting their job. He is VERY well respected!!!

Our mayor has added 40 new police officers during his first term, several new fire departments, fixed problem roads and had TONS of new projects in the works, and his list of accomplishments is too long!! IN short, there's a reason he has such an HIGH approval rating here!

Mark Begich, Democrat, Mayor of Anchorage

..is running against:

Jack Frost, prawn salesman for a local seafood market, radio personality, and major wingnut with -0- political experience

Wish us LUCK !!! ~~~ Mark should win this one easily!

I do not trust the Diebold machines though, so I'm worried...

** I'll try to bump this up tomorrow night as our results start rolling in!

http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/anchorage/city_election/story/7598349p-7509584c.html

Mayor Mark Begich won re-election Tuesday night after an aggressive, monthlong blitz of criticism from challenger Jack Frost.

Begich said he was humbled by his margin of victory: about 13 percentage points, with all but absentee and questioned ballots counted.

"Far more than anticipated," he said.

:toast: :bounce: :applause: :woohoo:
