Does anyone know about this? I wonder if these card readers have been certified. And if they screw with the totals. The transmission of results is over the top. And I'm not sure HR550 would prevent it, as it's not the "voting machine".
I think these folks have been out in The Desert Sun too long. Their ranch ain't the only mirage, their election is, too.Election goes on fast track

Tonight's first run of the CORENET system eliminates the archaic system of driving the desert's votes nearly 80 miles to Riverside.

"I have confidence that it will work," said Nancy Singer, a Rancho Mirage voter who will wait for the council results tonight. "I assume there will be no reason to stay up late on election night."

After polls close tonight, the vote cartridges will be taken in sealed, tamper-resistant bags from the city's four polling sites to the county administration offices in Indio.
Instead of driving the votes from there to Riverside as they did last fall, officials in Indio will insert the cartridges into a card reader and transmit the information electronically.
Results should arrive instantaneously via the $15,000 secure network.

"Hopefully it goes all right," said county Supervisor Roy Wilson, whose district includes most of the Coachella Valley.
"I'm optimistic that people in Rancho Mirage will get their results quickly. ...
In case there are any bugs, we'll have a couple months to work it out before the June primary."snip
"Electronically is so much better," said Rancho Mirage's Gail Kobe, who voted absentee and checks the TV for election night results.
"Instead of staying up all the time, it's interesting to see the response as soon as possible." :eyes:
