I just received the following e-mail from our state Democratic party with regard to the 2004 election up here. You all will probably remember that our state Division of Elections is still refusing to cut loose with the data. Rallies are now being planned.

Rally to Release the 2004 Vote Count

Show your support for fair, honest and open elections.

In Anchorage, meet at noon, Tuesday, April 18 in Town Square Park downtown.

Tell the Division of Elections it's way past time to release the records of our votes from the 2004 election.

The Division of Elections refuses to release the election information, claiming "security risks."

The Alaska Democratic Party (ADP) has been trying since last year to get the public records in order to find out why there are numerous errors and discrepancies in the state's reported results of the 2004 General Election.

Why is the Division of Elections so reluctant to provide these public records?

What are they trying to hide?

"All we ask is that the Lt. Governor and the Director of Elections follow the law and meet their obligation to Alaskans so every one knows why these numbers don't add up," said Jake Metcalfe, chair of the Alaska Democratic Party.

The 2004 General Election vote reports that were produced by the state's Diebold computer system and are posted on the Division of Election's web site contain numerous errors. According to the posted “Statement of Votes Cast” by district and precinct, a far larger number of votes were cast than the official totals reported in the statewide summary. In many of the House Districts, more votes are shown in the totals than there are voters in the district.

4. They still do not show election results

on the Baltimore City, Maryland website for 2004, they show 2002, but not for the 2004 general election. I hope you will get the truth soon. Kicked and nomimated.

Of course, the camera will be with me. I hope there's a good turnout. This whole deal with the Division of Elections is completely inexplicable. We can't figure out why letting the Democrats review the election results with Division of Elections people IN THE ROOM could possibly be a security threat. Somebody's hiding something somewhere.
