CHICAGO-Call For Ballot Recount Comes From Both Sides Of Aisle
Call For Ballot Recount Comes From Both Sides Of Aisle

Craig Dellimore Reporting

CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio 780) -- A month after a trouble-plagued primary election, officials and candidates from both sides of the political aisle are asking elections officials to take another look at the integrity of the results.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports that Cook County Republican leaders want 20 percent of the votes from the March primary recounted, because they fear problems with new voting equipment and untrained election judges may have tainted the results.

Meanwhile attorney and Democratic candidate Frank Avila is threatening to file a federal lawsuit on behalf of Democrats and Republicans.

Chicago Elections Board chairman Langdon Neal says a mandated 5 percent recount has already certified the count was accurate. He says problems with voting machines and elections judges who weren't able to handle the equipment, affected the speed of the vote counting, but not the accuracy.

Participants of a DU FLame War have failed to heed calls for peace. Some DUers worry about outright collapse.

4. K&R
Right after a recent thread on how peaceful the forum has been, *WHAM!* that peace becomes an irresistible target.

It's one thing to state and argue an opinion, it's another to work studiously to crush others for having a differing one...repeatedly...with a bludgeon.

7. Both parties should make Neal resign
How nice that both parties acknowledge there were "flaws" (just to make the language of this board more flowery) with this election. But how bad do they want to win? I would expect them to be more ruthless and yet there's an unusual concurrence here. But why here? That is, if they know there is no rational basis for confidence, why are they making a lesser argument? Have they simply not encountered or conceived of this frame? Or perhaps it exists in a place they don't allow their dissonance to take them?

I think the best strategy for both parties in this situation would be to point out the obvious denial of the Election Boards chairman who should resign. Public officials who display such blatant and brazen disconnects with reality must not be allowed to keep their office.

I wonder, if these guys are genuinely pursuing recounts and lawsuits, how far are they willing to go in revealing our true condition? No basis for confidence brings down the whole house of cards. I wouldn't be surprised if such a strategy was rejected.
