Jesse James, Bank Robberty, Election Rigging, & Media Silence
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 02:23 PM by Land Shark
On the one hand, we have a undeniable reality (or "risk" for you agnostics) perhaps best expressed as follows:

In stealing an election you get to be the official during the next election & set security policy. With banks, you can steal but you don't get to be bank president or set bank vault security policy. Good election stealers (or their friends) get immediate promotions to public office. Perhaps this helps explain officials getting huffy about talk of insider rigging and 98% re-election rates? ---Paul R. Lehto

On the other hand, we have

media silence and history-book silence about the universality of election shenanigans, as detailed in numerous books, several of them recent, like Deliver the Vote, Steal This Vote, and Keyssar's book on Democracy.

Because defending democracy would seem to necessarily involve an awareness of risks in order to protect against them, what is the best way to introduce discussion of these risks into our election-talk?

NOTE: Please presume that it is absurd to suggest that the public ought to be ignorant of the strengths and limitations of locked doors, so it is also ridiculous to suggest that the public ought to be ignorant of the strengths and limitations of election security.

1. Remember the AZ SOS who called those who demand verifiable elections:
anarchists? Those who are controlling the vote for their own self interest have distain for those of us who want fair, transparent and verifiable elections.

I found out after the '04 election that the position of SOS in a swing state is perhaps one of the most powerful positions in the country. Perhaps this is how J Kenneth Blackwell became a multi-millionaire while being a public servant.

2. yes, which is why i don't think we can or should ever concede the
tactic or reminder that the criminals in elections could be the public officials themselves. Because, if we do, then they simply set up "security perimeters" around elections that have the effect of keeping the public OUT, when the public is the only party that can truly check and balance elections....

3. And the AP called us "dissidents" because we raised
questions about Ohio.

And even after the protests at the OH statehouse on election night, the NYT said there was no story there.

Btw, is Mr. Conflict of Interest still giving his seminars on ethics?

6. I guess I never really considered
being called a dissident an insult. I generally think of someone speaking against an authoritarian government when I hear that word.

"Because defending democracy would seem to necessarily involve an awareness of risks in order to protect against them, what is the best way to introduce discussion of these risks into our election-talk?"

introduce discussion? We already have been screaming !!!!! about it for several years; do you mean what is the best way to frame it?

5. introduce discussion more broadly to the remainder of society?
how to frame it, if different than currently, is just one part of that discussion

10. that may be getting the election into the media, but not so much
the topic of insiders as #1 suspects. The train wreck should focus blame on vendors for the most part.

7. Media and Government silence on the issue
it makes me think that maybe there are only a handful of true Democrats in our Government otherwise why wouldn't the Democrats be screaming about these election theft machines, I mean supposedly the machines are in Repug control, wouldn't you be screaming if you were a Democrat , there is certainly enough information online about these machines, but silence.

I have to believe that our Government Both Dem's and Repugs enjoy having this control over our vote.

8. Raw Facts

The use of computers.

The use of vendors in many places to program each election.

The lack of a paper trail in some places, and the lack of good audits nearly everywhere.

Excellent point you make. "In stealing an election you get to be the official during the next election & set security policy."

11. Media silence..what an understatement..,where are they?
I remember when Bill Clinton was bombarded with front page titillating stories about his way-wood penis and that bimbo Monica. Every news channel (especially Faux) every major newspaper,it was all blow job all the time.
Now I read about the theft of the vote, dreaded DRE's democracy under attack and where is the Media? Much of the theft is now indisputable, some court challenges are still alive yet NO MEDIA COVERAGE !! WHY? Sadly, I know why, people would be imprisoned and King George the Imbecile I would lose his job.

Nice work Land Shark, am I happy your a DU-er !! But how to rally the masses? I don't know, someone tell me..

thanks

12. A thousand letters or emails simply and politely requesting coverage
of an issue you find important and fascinating. If they don't respond to that, then there's a REAL problem of some sort. I'd suggest that secret vote counting be the issue for this purpose. But it doesn't take a thousand it can start with one individual just doing their own thing.
