Thom starts out asking her about about McP recertifying certifying TSx; Bowen says it was done illegally.
Voter Action suit filed in March
Seven counties have since decided to use paper ballots instead of Diebold
Another round of certification in 2007; Law will change again in 2007; doesn't make sense to spend money now for machines that can't be used after that. People starting to look at the cost factor.
Thom talking to her about privatization of the vote; how the Commons belongs to all of us and is administered thru our elected reps, through our vote. How did our vote get privatized?
Bowen brings it to voter reg database issue instead of answering his question; talks about how rigid matching criteria is purging people. Voter reg part of Commons also; this will be issue across country. Think about how it will impact issues such as pro-choice issue in SD when people sign petitions. Battleground shifting because of who gets to be on voter rolls. Most of these databases are privatized as well. (Brilliant how she talked about what she wanted to talk about and still brought it back to Thom's point about privatization.)
If you make it harder for people to vote their will be a disproportionate impact on progressive voters. Progressives need to come together across the county and push the issue. Debra says she is raising it on blogs, everywhere she can.
It's hard for people to imagine that (those who want to control who votes) would actually have strategies that would cause people to not be able to vote. Bowen: "I DO want everyone to vote!"
Thom talking to her about running for SOS; "I think it's so important to have people like you running for SOS.I am impressed that you are doing this." Encouraging everyone to vote for her, go to her website, get involved. Plugging her! Very complimentary.
Note: if you want to listen to the rebroadcast, the show starts new from whenever you begin listening, so you have to wait till two hours in from when you begin to listen.
