January 6th 2005: A March on Washington retrospective (photo intensive!)
Edited on Sun Jan-07-07 09:31 PM by Kip Humphrey

We were assembled with purpose and without hope.
The nation needed to pay heed to our stolen election
and Congress needed to stand up and contest the vote.

January 4th - An intrepid cadre of election integrity warriors came together in Laural Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. In 36 hours, these selfless citizens marched all over Washington handing out over 8,000 flyers announcing the January 6th rally to protest the stolen election and call on Congress to reject the electoral college votes and initiate an investigation.

The morning of January 6th 2005 was raw, cold, and overcast as people converged on a small knot of Ohioans congregated in Lafayette Park adjacent to the White House. As the speeches cranked up, the crowd grew from 70 to over 2,700.

During the speeches, Jesse Jackson announced the results of efforts to lobby Senators on January 5th. Barbara Boxer along with 6 other Senators would stand in objection to the Ohio electoral vote (the 6 other Senators subsequently abandoned Barbara Boxer, going back on their personal pledges to Barbara to stand with her).

Then, without permit, the 2700 marched down Pennsylvania Avenue to converge on Upper Senate Park adjacent to the Capital for a rally sponsored by Redefeat Bush. The DC police suddenly had their hands full doing all they could to block and redirect traffic around our unannounced protest march.

Arriving in Upper Senate Park, we augmented a crowd of 100+. Speeches filled the air as we stood vigil while the Senate held an unprecedented session debating accepting or rejecting Ohio's electoral vote.

In the end, the Senate rejected Barbara Boxer's defiance. We had lost but felt sure we would eventually win this war for voting integrity. The cold creeping up from the hard ground through the soles of our feet, we knew then what was at stake and that we would never give up.

WE ARE THE PEOPLE WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!

Share your experience if you were there!
