It's not intended to be a permanent job. As a matter of fact, I was offered the chance to step down a few months ago, normal rotation. I stayed on because it was something I liked to do that I seemed to be good at that I thought (think) was important.
My plaints were directed at the people who look at the ER news but don't rec it (and I can tell there are lots by the views/recs ratio) and at the people who are not volunteering for the job.
If not enough people with mouse fingers to rec and/or a couple of hours to give once a week don't think it's important, then I bow to the will of DU.
But I was *not* criticizing the departed editors. I'm sure they knew that - I just wanted to make sure the others did.
