I call BS-NOTE: Bar Owner can't remember names of those who Offered to Pick up Tab
SOUNDS LIKE OHIO GOP DIRTY TRICKS TO MAKE OBAMA CAMPAIGN LOOK BAD:

Voting drive at bar cut off by Ohio law
Obama fans' plan, to let patrons in free for registering, called illegal enticement

By Barbara Carmen
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

You can Barack the Vote, but you can't buy it.

That's what some overly enthusiastic college kids learned when they approached a manager of the Mynt bar, 445 N. High St., to host a voter-registration drive.

Fliers promoting the drive, to have taken place last Saturday, said: "Open Bar. Free Entry when you register to vote or if you are already registered."

Mynt charges a $5 cover. The flier said an open bar would be offered from 9 to 11 p.m.

"These guys thought they were just doing something good," manager Josh Mynes said. He didn't remember their names.

The fliers promised "staff from the Ohio Obama Campaign" would be on hand to complete registration paperwork and check names of those already registered.

1. Nice try. Sounds like an over zealous, honest mistake
college kids can get enthusiastic and very creative. Kudos to them for trying.

3. I was told by an Ohio State Senator (Jeffry Armbruster R-Lorain) while lobbying for
election integrity with Common Cause that if I was really interested in preventing fraud, I should stop Dems from pulling drunks out of bars on election day. Sorry I don't buy this story. Why would a bar owner agree to have someone cover the tab but fail to get the names of those who offered. I call dirty tricks to make the Obama Campaign look bad. The Dispatch is a RW rag that always supports Republicans.

4. This was in Ohio...
I didn't realize that. And considering what the GOP is trying to do in Ohio, I believe now that it was a dirty trick. Likely it involved some GOP/Hitler Youth and claiming to be Democrats.

2. How, exactly, does that violate campaign law?
There was no enticement to register to a particular party - just to register. And the 'enticement' was a waiving of a cover charge for anyone who wanted to register (no matter the party) or who was already registered. As there are certainly other venues where there is normally no cover, this is not much of an 'enticement'.

Was it simply because the flier specified the Obama campaign as organizing the drive?
