We already have Election Day Registration at the polls in MN.
Election officials ask people while they're in a line to step out of the line to register if they aren't already registered. This way, the line isn't stalled as people register.
Congressman Keith Ellison wants to make sure the people in his district know their voting rights.
Ellison is holding a forum Monday night at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis. The Minnesota Democrat will also talk about legislation he has sponsored to encourage voter participation.
One bill would ban election officials from requiring a photo ID to vote in federal elections. Ellison argues that photo ID requirements discourage minorities, the poor, women, elderly and young people from voting.
The other bill would require states to have same-day voter registration for federal elections.
