News Release

New York State Board of Elections

NYSBOE Statement Regarding Voting System Certification ALBANY, NY (10/29/08):

Today the State Board has been advised by the federal Election Assistance Commission (EAC) that it intends to suspended SysTest Labs accreditation to work as a Voting System Test Lab for “failing to comply with program requirements”.

In view of this pending critical decision by the EAC and the fact that the contractual engagement between SysTest Labs and the State Board requires that all voting system certification testing be performed by an accredited Voting System Test Lab, the State Board is forced to consider suspending the voting system certification effort related to New York.

The State Board assures New York voters that the November 4th General Election will not be impacted by this development as this potential suspension does not affect any voting system currently in use in New York.

4. Eh?
CNN, @ 4pm had a segment about the voting systems in use. It was pretty good expose' of the damned machines... even talked abt HAVA. And levers.

'Course they got around to talking abt how anything with no paper trail should be verbotten. But I'd take levers over any computerized counter.

5. You are correct! And besides, Lever Voting Systems DO produce a paper trail:
Just as HAVA intended! See:

7. You know the NY IRV advocates
do not know anything about the voting machines and put that off for "after" IRV
is adopted.

What worries me is that one group plans to set up a political action committee,
and I can picture the vendors or their lobbyists donating to them rather smartly,
can't you?

Whether there is a chance or not for these little groups to gather any strength
is another thing.

My state has been targeted by Fair Vote and we have been fighting for over 2 years now
to protect our verified voting standards from IRV.

Now we are fighting to prevent IRV from perverting the meaning of manual counts.

Since we have some touch screens, and its hard to count the VVPAT, the plan is to
change "manual hand to eye count of the VVPAT" to "manual hand to eye count of the Excel spreadsheet".

The data from the iVotronics is to be uploaded to Unity, then copied onto Excel and then
5 pages single spaced steps to manipulate that data will determine the outcome of that election.

9. I wouldn't change the law just so you can use a spreadsheet.

That hand-to-eye stuff applies to auditing. You're talking about the initial count. Of course, IRV is very difficult to audit, except for the first round to determine if the runoff is really required. After that, it gets VERY complicated.
