Greenbrier Canvass is Halted

Over 300 Votes Believed to Have Not Been Counted

LEWISBURG — Election officials Monday in Greenbrier County halted the canvassing of last week’s general election after a discrepancy of more than 300 votes was found in totals from last Tuesday’s unofficial count.

“When all the ballots for early voting were tabulated Tuesday night, we came up with 2,777,” Livesay said. “But now we believe that about 340 votes may not have been counted. I am unsure how to explain why.”

“I’m disappointed, to be honest with you. I haven’t felt comfortable all week and I just had some kind of feeling that something was not right and to have this happen just reaffirms it,” Childers said. “I’m not confident that I have won this election and I can’t believe that in this day and age our county could go this long and we still don’t know who the winner is.”

This election snafu will not be blamed on hanging chads, but most likely will be the result of a high-tech problem dealing with the (ES&S) voting machine’s “flash cards.”

3. Sounds to me like a problem with the "flash cards" or PEBs.

These "collect" the totals in the machines. They should analyze the other cards--print their totals off separately if they can to see if the totals then match those gathered on the PEBs.

4. I never had a problem with flash cards

except for the unwanted code that manufacturers put on for Windoze machines. Pain in the ass code in a hidden, read-only file, that you can only get rid of if you use a Windoze machine.

Perhaps it's some more 'hidden' code on the flash cards or built into the Operating System.
