Breaking: Hart InterChangeable
In light of the Humboldt, CA situation that has been in the news lately, including the stated intention of the Registrar of Voters to abandon Diebold/Premier optical scanners/GEMS in favor of similarly flawed secret vote counting computers, I do hereby christen a new meme for the name of that alternate vendor:

Hart InterChangeable

Humboldt's False Alternative to Diebold

1. Swapping problems for problems, Diebold bugs for Hart Broken Hearts
Is the county now going to evade the public ballot image project by arguing that
Hart machines themselves produce images of the ballots?

Hart optical scanners have that weird problem where a fold in the ballot or lint
on the scanner lense can cause a slew of undervotes.

Is there someone pushing for the Hart machines?

2. The Registrar
she is the one who has proposed eScans, but she is also proudly committed to continuing with the transparency project. in fact, I anticipate that she will use the transparency project as a defense to explain why we should accept the non-transparent main count method.

yes, trading one problem for another - hence InterChangeable.

what do you think? can we spread that around?

3. hmmm right problem, wrong solution, from frying pan to fire
I think folks need to be aware of the inherent problems with Hart.

Hart - right problem, wrong solution.

And you have to offer a solution in order to persuade them not to
spend the fortune on new Hart Intercivic voting machines.

- what do you suggest?
