Bad News from Jersey: VVPAT (and audit) Law a Governor's Signature Away from Indefinite Hold

'Daily Voting News' For February 24, 2009

~snip~

Lawmakers in New Jersey have taken the state backwards as the State Senate agreed with the House that the state should scrap plans to provide any verifiability in their elections. A requirement signed into law a few years ago should have required a vvpat on all of the state’s DREs over a year ago. Instead the deadline has been a moving target and will now, with signature of the Governor, go away.

1. OK, there's a delay.
The problem as I understand it, is that Sequoia's vintage DREs can't support a VVPAT. So they will have to go Op Scan. Not sure if/when this will happen, but they have activists there who should be working on it.

I would be happy to donate New York's HAVA money to the Garden State so we can keep our levers.

2. The Jets, the Giants, and NOW HAVA money, too!?!
How much more can NY do for the Garden State?

If this is to be, I suggest cars with NY plates don't have to pay tolls in NJ.

3. The governors, legislators, congress critters and other officers 'elected' in states
without any ability to verify the vote count given by machines run on 'TRADE SECRET' CODE lack all legitimacy. They are not who they say they are. Every action they take, or vote they cast, is illegitimate. They are collecting illegitimate salaries and benefits. They are fraudulently parading as something they are not. And they all belong in jail.

Period.

As for public officials 'elected' in states that at least have a paper ballot--that is, verification is possible--but which conduct zero or inadequate verification (most of them), they are in a limbo status. We don't know if they were elected. They could prove it, but they have not done so.

President Obama cannot prove that he was actually elected, given these circumstances. I believe that he was, based on external evidence--opinion polls, exit polls, gut feeling, etc. I'm also pretty sure that his mandate was significantly and fraudulently reduced by these private, rightwing corporate-controlled 'TRADE SECRET' machines--again based on external evidence (TIA's analysis--including voter reg stats, polls, etc.). But almost none of the votes were actually counted--that is, visible, human counting of the votes in public view. And with half the voting systems, no verification was even possible.

Until we change this--and restore vote counting that everyone can see and understand--our democracy is a sham. It really and truly is. We don't qualify on even the most fundamental requirement of democracy: transparent vote counting.
