1. O dear...... O dear......
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 02:43 AM by demodonkey

Terrible, terrible news.

On edit: John was one of our greatest advocates for transparent democracy and one of the few who really followed and took the EAC and others to task.

John was not only a founder of VotersUnite, he was also one of the original core founders of VoteTrustUSA and worked with so many other groups and organizations dedicated to election integrity.

He will be missed so much!

All I can say right now is that I know John has joined Andy and I know that those two will keep fighting with us from the Other Side.

24. One of the greatest patriots in the country at this time or any time.
Early on, I got on his list to receive Voting news each day. It started in about 2005 I think, but I got on maybe a year later. Then, for almost every day until just now, he sent his email listing all the articles of importance that day dealing with the US election system. If and when we take our democracy back from the electronic machine vendors and the corrupt elections officials and dirty tricksters, John will be one to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude.

Tributes to John Gideon, RIP National Election Integrity Hero

I was shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of John Gideon, co director of Voters Unite. John tirelessly sent out the Daily Voting News, along with commentary, 365 days a year beginning with late 2003. John worked non stop, he encouraged each of us in every state to fight, and said that just one person could make a difference. He would know - his efforts made all of the difference. We in North Carolina and other states who care about election transparency owe John a huge debt. We at NCCVV will honor John's memory by continuing the work we started together long ago. There's no words to express my gratitude to John for all he did or sadness for how much he will be missed, every day.

Below are tributes dedicated to John Gideon by: Brad Friedman of Brad Blog, Kim Alexander of CalVoter.org, Computer scientist Joseph Lorenzo Hall, Congressman Rush Holt, Warren Stewart of Verified Voting.org, Bob Fertik of Democrats.com, Mark Crispin Miller, and Howard Stanislevic of the E-Voter Education Project, and Luther Weeks of Connecticut... more at the link

36. I know many tears are being shed today
I've felt a huge loss, for all of us. Its hard to believe I won't be able to just
pick up a phone and call John with one of those really tough questions, to get one of
his very frank and informative answers.

He did one of the most important tasks that connected the e-voting movement and made
it so powerful that others studied it, studied us.

RIP John.

44. A Tribute to the Author

'Daily Voting News' A Tribute to the Author.

April 29, 2009.

I'm sure that most, if not all, of you have heard of our loss of John Gideon. I'm also sure that you appreciated his faithfulness in providing you with up-to-the-day information about election issues.

He appreciated your faithfulness, too. Your work and personal engagement with him was a great inspiration to him and provided tremendous motivation for him to continue his work. Some of you expressed your gratitude to him in personal emails, which never failed to delight him. All of you expressed your appreciation by remaining subscribed to Daily Voting News. I don't say this lightly. He experienced your continuing subscriptions as appreciation for his work.

To state the obvious, John cannot be replaced. But DVN, John's personal brainchild and invaluable contribution to VotersUnite.Org, has become an essential resource in the election integrity community and beyond. I want to reassure you that I am working with other colleagues of John to figure out how VotersUnite can continue a form of DVN even in John's absence. Hopefully, it will not be long.

Many tributes to John and his work have been posted on many sites. I am including links to three. Sharing our memories of John and even our sorrow in losing his active presence is one way to draw strength from this untimely loss.

VotersUnite.Org: Celebrating the Life Of John Gideon

Bradblog: In Memoriam: John Gideon, 1947-2009. Father, grandfather, husband, veteran, patriot, co-director of VotersUnite.Org, democracy advocate, blogger, friend ...
