NY: Effort to Maintain Lever Voting Machines Gains Momentum

Effort to Maintain Lever Voting Machines Gains Momentum

May 27, 2009

Novick, center, has long lobbied,
throughout the Hudson Vally, for keeping
the old machines. Above, she talks to
citizens in front of the Dutchess County
office building, two years ago.

MONTICELLO – With last week’s adoption by the Sullivan County Legislature of a resolution urging the state to repeal the election reform act and allow counties to keep using their lever voting systems, the Election Transparency Coalition sees more hope in having the law reversed.

Sullivan becomes the 10th county in the state, a list that also includes Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, and Ulster in the Hudson Valley, to vote to retain the levered machines.

1. All I want is my lever voting machines.............
FOREVER! New York State can't afford to piss away millions when we already have the very best voting machines known to man. I can't even get my GD personal computer to run right; how the hell can an e-voting machine be any better. Simple answer is it can't. I certainly don't want to give a right wing conservative rethug hacker the opportunity to change my vote. Levers are a voters best friend.

2. considering the alternatives - yes levers are better
right now even with paper ballot optical scan, the current alternatives aren't that great.

There's just too much wrong with computerized voting.

Its great to have the paper ballot, but by the time election night is over,
the media has declared the winner.

And try taking that back.
