“This year’s election went very smoothly,” Village Clerk Joe Scalero said, attributing it “in no small part” to the use of the older lever voting machines. Former Mineola Mayor, now New York State Senator Jack Martins had made it possible for villages to use the older machines with his first piece of legislation, which was cosponsored in the Assembly by Michelle Schimmel, D-Great Neck.
No incidents were reported at the polling station in the community center and “the machines worked flawlessly” Scalero said. “Nobody was denied their right to vote.”
