1. Haven't read him, but he's Bill Clinton's favorite writer. |
Though I did see the movie version of Devil In A Blue Dress.

They made a pretty good movie out of "Devil in a Blue Dress".

3. I've read his Easy Rawlins mysteries |
I think it's Easy Rawlins who has a black cat called Whitey. A great touch. I'm a mystery-police procedural-crime fiction afficionado; if there's a pet involved, so much the better.

5. Definitely. He even has a few quite notable SF titles as well. |
All of the same high quality as his other writing, although the end of "The Wave" wasn't as satisfying as the end of "Blue Light". Which really doesn't mean much; he rocks.

6. Absolutely - I first read his SciFi collection 'Futureland' |
and am now working on the Rawlins books. In addition to the books being excellent reads, I'm finding it very interesting to contrast the L.A. that Rawlins encounters with how the city is experienced by Philip Marlowe (Chandler) and Lew Archer (MacDonald). Although the time frames are a bit different, it's looking at very different perspectives of the same landscape...
