Any fans of Tales of the City by Armisted Maupin?

I feel like a bit of a ringer, but I have great news for the people who love the residents of Barbary Lane. Maupin is coming out with a new book "Michael Tolliver" in June. I am reading the Advance right now & it is like visiting dear, old friends. I won't tell you any spoilers, other than Anna Madrigal lives.

I can't wait to see how 'Mouse' is doing! The first TV movie (PBS) was great. The second... ehhh. But loved the books!

I have been meaning to read the series again -- I LOVED them back in the late 80s/early 90s if I remember the timeframe correctly. I was blown away by the cleverness of Maupin. So glad to hear about the new book!

Man, am I a fan of "TOTC"

The characters were and are old friends to me. I loved the books, I loved the televised versions of the books (Olympia Dukakis made a wonderful Anna Madrigal, as did Laura Linney as Mary Ann Singleton)

I will positively buy the new book when it comes out. :-)

...Tales of the City. And The Night Listener blew my socks off. Recently saw the movie version with Robin Williams and it was excellent.

I bought it yesterday at Barnes and Noble.

I'm loving this book immensely. You're exactly right...it's like meeting up with dear friends you haven't seen in years.

I just finished it. It's funny, and warm, and sad. It is indeed like being with old friends. Even Mary Ann shows up at the end.

I understand that Armistead Maupin will write another "Tales" book after this one. I can't wait.

"The Night Listener" was a good read.

But, I didn't care for "Michael Tolliver Lives". I wish he hadn't written it.
