Anybody read or have an opinion? It has been suggested to me to recommend it to my book club which I hesitate to do without having read it. I respect the opinions on here, so.....

it was enthusiastically recommended to me by a good friend, but I found it to be tedious and kind of silly. I ended up skimming the 2nd half.

It was recommended to me by a reader in a book club which tends to read a lot more fluff than my club, so I was suspicious and appreciate your answer. :-)

It kind of upset me how badly they treated the elephant, which are very intelligent, sensitive creatures. It made me sick how they beat her and how the main character did not intervene.
