Wanted - 5 word descriptive sentence for The Road

This is an assignment for my book club members. I also posted this in the discussion of the book, but was afraid it would just be buried in the conversation.

I thought the book was wonderful and am sure I missed some of the metaphors.

I love books that leave me with questions, and this was certainly a book of questions.

Am I weird in my thinking that I was relieved when the father died and the boy found a family that was more in tune to his humanity? When reviews point out the love between the father and the son, I certainly think of unconditional love and the boy loved the man no matter what. The man loved only the boy.

The only sentence I can come up with is

"Reverence for self or for humankind?" (and this could be considered over the five-word limit)

Anyone else want to try? (Please.)

I loved the book, and don't worry if you feel that you missed some of the metaphors. McCarthy's writing works very well on its own even if you take it only at face value.

I like apocalyptic fiction (although, sadly, I have not read Swan Song), and so this book sounded interesting.
I just checked it out from the library. Once I finish my current book, I'll start The Road.

Seriously, I recommend this book very highly. It has a cold starkness--in both subject matter and narrative style--like I've seldom seen. It's very well written, though there are stylistic quirks that some here at DU have found off-putting.

But if you've read any other McCarthy, then you'll hardly even notice these quirks.

and my answer is still the same: "a boy and his dog" (except that ellison had a sense of humor)
