Thousand Splendid Suns (Hosseini)?

I'm probably missing a thread on this and if so I'm sorry. Anyone read yet? Liked it? As good as Kite Runner?

I loved it. Very intense -more so than KR to me.

1. I'm going to have to read this.

I work for a library and an announcement was just posted yesterday that we have 200 people on a waiting list for 15 copies, so they are going to order 20 more copies. I've been there two years and I've never seen an announcement like that posted on the system.

3. I listened to a recorded version...it's fantastic!

I loved The Kite Runner, but thought this was even better. Part of it was difficult to hear, because of the violence, but it was very well written and very powerful. This book focused more on women's issues than this first and so hit home harder for me.

I highly recommend this one!

4. I just finished it last night

This book doesn't just break your heart - it rips it out and stomps all over it. But it must be read. The story here is happening to hundreds of thousands of women in the world. Their story must be heard. That this story is being told by a man makes it even more poignant.

You are so right. I haven't cried reading a book like this in as long as I can remember. But I'm so glad I read it.

This is far and away better than "Kite Runner" and I enjoyed that one.

5. I read it several weeks ago.

I also liked it better than The Kite Runner. I especially fell in love with the character of Miriam, whose life has been a series of betrayals and heartbreaks, and who finally finds an ally and then a dear friend in her husband's second wife.

10. It's very good.

But very tragic too. I was lucky to find the walk-in copy at my library when the shelving lady just placed it in the spot where I had just picked up another book. I read his "Kite" book. What a wonderful writer. Just great.

it seems smaller, more intimate than Kite Runner, and I'm impressed at his ability to concentrate the story on female characters and make it seem real.

Is Zaman, the orphanage director, the same orphanage director from Kite Runner? Is it meant to be the same orphanage?

I can't praise this book enough. It moved me beyond words.

I loved The Kite Runner, but A Thousand Splendid Suns surpassed it for me. It was truly an incredible story.

Hosseini shows much growth in "1,000 Splendid Suns." I can only imagine where his writing will go from here.

21. OK, I read it when I was in New England this month. I liked it a lot.

My companion is reading it now. This author certainly came out of the start gate with two impressing novels. I think I liked The Kite Runner more. But I liked them both.

The problem is that many will not be able to get beyond the domestic violence. The characters are so well drawn! I would give him the Nobel Prize for literature.

25. I stayed up until 3:30 am finishing it.

As with Kite Runner, I couldn't put it down until I knew what happened. When I finished it, I felt like I'd read a book that will certainly be a "classic" in the sense that high school or college students will be reading it/discussing it in literature classes many, many years from now.
