Archer Mayor
Don't know how I picked out this author, maybe it was going through character lists at stopyourekillingme.com or a list of new books somewhere, but anyway, I just got THE SKELETON'S KNEE by Archer Mayor. He has a new book out called CHAT. I chose the oldest one the library had 1993) because he has a dozen or so books out with a main character, Joe Gunther, and I love series books; I hate reading the newest first.

Anybody have any experience with this author? Am about to start reading...

1. He sounds interesting.
The first book in the series was published in 1988. You may have to interlibrary loan it.

In a previously held job, he caused "The Book of Merlin" to be published. That is the conclusion to White's "The Once and Future King."

I will have to look into this author.

2. Nice reading
Haven't looked into the books you mention above, but I think I'm going to go a few more in this guy's series. Might request interlibrary loan.

I'm about 1/2 way through and enjoy the style.

Thanks,
martha

3. He's big up in New England
He's very popular in northern New England - always in the library's new fiction section, book signings. He knows the ins and outs of life in New England, and it clearly comes through in his books. I avoided them for some time - don't quite know why - but they are pretty good. Not great literature, but good reads, moderate page turners. I wouldn't want to put the death knell of "beach read" on it, but that's probably a decent enough description. You'll enjoy them. Also good as audio books.

4. Am reading the available series
Just finished OCCAM'S RAZOR, and just started THE MARBLE MASK. My library doesn't have 3 or 4 of the first and early ones.

They're not great books, but the characters are likeable and the plots are are well thought out. He's heavy on descriptions but once he gets rolling he keeps you interested.

I like series books because once I know most of the characters I don't have to keep flipping back to see who or what somebody is...

I think the main reason I started the series is my fondness for Howard Dean... :)

6. Update
According to a post in DU's Breaking News, Brattleboro, VT, is going to impeach Bush and/or Cheney if they go into Vermont.

Brattleboro is the town where Agent Joe Gunther in the Archer Mayer novels
lives and works.

The books were pretty good....I read everyone my library has - missed 2 of the oldest.
