2. If I end up with issues with my publisher, I might well look into it.
But there are a couple of other options I might look into as well.

3. POD usually makes more money for the POD company than the writer
Just mho.

4. No Diff From Traditional, then?
Either way, the percentage of writers who get rich is vanishingly small compared to the numbers of wealthy publishers.

5. Which is why most writers I know are becoming publishers and doing their own stuff
I'm still published by mainstream publishers, but I have lots of friends who've started their own
pub company. They sell through Amazon and some of the wildcatter distributors that will carry VP
titles.

6. If the next one doesn't sell
I'll be doing that too. I have books out from five years ago that never showed a penny of royalties...but why do I suspect that they still made money for somebody, just not me?

7. Because they did.
No one gets rich being a writer. I've been writing for thirty years. I have dozens of category
romances and other books that I've written and I'm good to make about 10K a year from them. Sad but true.

8. From what I can tell based on interactions with people who've...
used Lulu, Authorhouse, Booksurge, and iUniverse, if you are more technically astute and can do much of the layout work yourself, Lulu is a much better avenue to go. They do seem to be much more user-friendly based on the information at their website. I feel confident telling people to stay away from Authorhouse - I've worked with too many people who have been very unhappy with them. For example, they send to print without giving the author a chance to proof the galley (of course, saying it wasn't their fault), then charge a premium to have mistakes fixed.

If I go this route, I'll use Lulu.

9. I'm 82 years old an still pretty tech savvy. I spent a lot of time on the first book, but
the last two have been easy. Oh, and so far it's been free as advertised. On the first one I damn near gave up and ask for help, which they charge for. The biggest problem is your upload conversion to PDF failure with no clue as to what you fucked up. I'm suspicious that it pays to do it late at night when traffic is down.

10. Good to know. I think they have people in their "services" forum...
who, for a fee, will do the PDF conversion. I'm anxious to give Lulu a try to see if I can do it. LOL. I'm sure I'll be extremely challenged.

:hi:
