1. Not yet, but looks interesting

One afternoon while I was scanning a friend's bookshelf for my next great read, it struck me. When I want to know what books to read, I'd rather turn to a friend than any random person, bestseller list or algorithm. So I thought I'd build a website — a website where I could see my friends' bookshelves and learn about what they thought of all their books.

http://www.goodreads.com/about/us

Goodreads is a free website for book lovers. Imagine it as a large library that you can wander through and see everyone's bookshelves, their reviews, and their ratings. You can also post your own reviews and catalog what you have read, are currently reading, and plan to read in the future. Don’t stop there – join a discussion group, start a book club, contact an author, and even post your own writing.

Signing up is simple — you just enter your name, email, and a password.

If you are a published author, take a look at the Goodreads Author Program.

I used to read alot of books, but got lazy with the internet so available - read as a child profusely, we didn't have a TV until I was 11, and then only allowed 1 hour a week of the tube for years, upgraded to about 3 - 4 hours a week until my late teens.

Used to purchase used books to take camping for the evening hours, haven't really read a book in years . .

Time to get back to my youthful affection for reading . .

And turn this machine OFF!

4. I hadn't heard of it, but it looks great!
I've just joined up and GoodReads is currently churning through the process of uploading my book database (I keep everything in a great little program called Readerware).

Thanks for posting this!

5. This is not nice
what are you trying to do to me, my 'to read list' is already way to long :)

The site looks like a very nice idea though.

I absolutely love it. It helps me to organize what I've read and what I intend to read.

It's a must for book lovers.

12. I am!
I love it. For the first time, I have a simple way to keep track of what I've read and what I thought about it, plus I have a wish list of books I want to read and a roster of like-minded friends whose reading choices introduce me to lots of great books I might never have encountered otherwise.

There are also discussion groups of every imaginable stripe and the ability to post your own original works for others to read.

I've been a member since August of 2007 and haven't had any negative experiences so far.

16. I'm up to 50 books now...
Hard to remember all the books you've read. From now on, the first thing I'll do after a read is update on goodreads.com.
