"World Made by Hand" by James Howard Kunstler
Anyone read it? I just finished this novel, which is sort of a post-peak oil tale. A chilling future that seems all too real.

He calls it "Union Grove" in the book. I have heard there will 4 books in the series.
One for every season of the year.

It was a bit scary.

Here is a flim trailer about the book.

2. Impressive
Interesting that it's going to be a series. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for the next book.

3. Kunstler lives about 20 miles from here.
In Saratoga Springs,ny.. It was strange reading the book while living in the town, knowing the street names and area, mills and the high School.......I still have a nephew going there. I also discovered some new things about the area. The town water supply which was rebuilt and made functional in the book was a place I have never visited until I read the book.....then I had to find it. It's one of my favorite places for a short hike or a short contemplation.

I think he choose the area because it was close to his residence and is world apart from the town he lives in. Saratoga springs is a tourist mecca. Know for it's atmosphere and summer horse racing season.

Washington County is very agricultural community, revolving around dairy. Lots of cows and horses, and cheese making and small farms that go back for generations. There are also many craftsmen and artists.

It makes sense to me that if cataclysmic events happened, then Washington county would serve as a place to readjust and get back on its feet before less agricultural areas would.

Peace.......and if you Ever have to start all over "Union Village" would not be a bad choice.

5. It was recommended to me in another thread
But I haven't gotten to the local bookstore yet to pick it up. Knowing that the setting is local (I live in Warren County) makes it all the more interesting.

7. Howdy back at ya
I was just at The Red Fox in Glens Falls to pick up Suskind's book and they were out of Kunstler's. I'm dying to read it but I don't want to stray from the locally owned bookstore. :hi:

I would be willing to lend you my copy if you aren't able to get a copy in the near future, I could ship US mail.

9. They'll have a copy in Tuesday and will hold it for me
It's nice to have a local bookstore again after so many years without one and these folks do a fine job of it in a small space.
