Anyone else read the "Twilight" series??
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 10:21 AM by LibraLiz1973
I've just finished reading all four of them.
Read one each night last week. (got NO sleep, but had to find out what happened!)

I'd have thought that reading youth fiction would not be so engrossing, but I particularly enjoyed the first book in the series, Twilight.

2. You should try reading them too.
I was surprised at how well they translated to adults as well.
My niece loves them & wanted me to read at least the first one so
that I could take her to the movie. I read Twilight & decided to keep going!

3. My 16 year old daughter is obsessed (in a good way) with this series.

She loved the story and started a fan site blog about it this summer. What has been great about her blog is that she is writing and researching every day for new Twilight news. She has also written many reviews and opinion pieces, so I've been delighted to see her thinking critically and then writing.

She wants me to read the books and I will definitely read the first one before the movie comes out (in either Nov. or Dec.).

We attended the Barnes and Noble party at midnight when the latest book came out in August. It was wonderful to see women (and a few guys) of all ages in line to buy the book.

In glancing at the books, it seems that for a commercial fiction writer, her writing style is fairly interesting and more complex than the usual commercial fiction.

We live only about two hours from Forks, so we're also planning a "field trip" one of these weekends.

If you're interested, my daughter's blog is: http://www.welovetwilight.blogspot.com
(I think she has hundreds of posts!)

What did you think of the series?

4. Oh my gosh! There's a real Forks?
I seriously thought it was fictitious.

I really loved the books. I thought the author did a great job of giving the characters depth. You really got invested in the story. She definitely makes them "real" for you. I'm 34 and I have to tell you, I am a little obsessed with Edward Cullen after reading those books! lol. In a good way.

I originally read them for my niece, she is 13. I am going to take her to the midnight showing when the movie comes out.
I told her I'd read Twilight, but I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did! I ended up reading (devouring them, really) all four in 4 days- one each night.

I will definitely head over to your daughters blog & check it out! And I will pass along the link to my niece.
She is OBSESSED with the books too. I bought her a movie poster, the Jacob/Edward bracelet & a Team Edward tee.
I'm just so happy to see her reading & loving it! I am always saddened to see kids who don't care for reading at all. :(

The movie comes out 11/21/08 so make sure you read it before then!!

:)

8. Yes, Forks is a real place! It's in north-western Washington State near the coast--
and like many parts of Western Washington (like where I live) it gets the least amount of sunlight of any place in the entire US due to the constant cloud cover and rain (a great place for a vampire).

I will definitely read the book by Nov. 21st. I'm sure we will be going to the midnight show as well!
It will be interesting for me to read the book. I like complexity in writing and character development. I could not read read J.K Rowling because her style was so simple, though I love the movies and the thematic aspect of her stories. Like you, I'll probably be taken with it and read the entire thing at once!

My daughter is absolutely in love with Edward Cullen and now she is also quite sweet on Robert Pattinson. She really thinks he is the perfect actor to play the part, since he matches the way she had imagined Edward as she read the book.

I'll have to check back in once I've read Twilight.

And now you know that Forks is real!

7. That's okay. I'm not into sci-fi or fantasy fiction. I'm strictly a novel sorta gal.

9. I did.
I thought they were ok. Kind of like Laurel Hamilton for teens.

10. Try The Hunger Games, too.
Kept me up until 3 a.m.

Much of what I read is YA lit or children's lit. Good stuff.
