Midsomer Murders----SPOILER

I've never read any of the books in this series, but I just saw "Midsomer murders: Dead man's eleven." This is the second of the series I've seen and probably it will be the last.

There are events that really strain the imagination, even for a mystery. Mainly, that the perp would murder Cavendish's housekeeper so that she could get the housekeeper's job.

That was, at the least, taking a big chance. How could she be sure they'd hire her for the replacement?

There were other things in the story that were just too far out for me.

1. Series books

I love series books because I get to loving the main character in the series, be he a soldier, politician, detective, cop, undertaker, whatever. The plot most of the time is stupid, and occasionally a book in the series doesn't measure up, but my love for the character and his buddies/family is strong enough to grab the next series book to come out.

For instance, one of the most unbelievable series is written by Robert K. Tannenbaum, except it's not really him, it's a ghost writer. I feel like the goofy characters in these books are more like my family than my family - Butch Karp, DA, NY. I started with the 5th or 6th one and then started from the first written and did them all. If I live long enough, I will read them all again.

3. I love series books too, such as the Marcus Didius Falco series,

Brother Cadfael, Anna Pidgeon, Inspector Wexford, Inspector Lynley, and others. But I guess MIDSOMER MURDERS just doesn't do it for me.

2. The "Midsomer Murders" stories aren't meant to be taken all that seriously.

They're not like the stories about "that opera-loving detective" (an actual
line from one of the books and/or TV shows).

And the average body count in the episodes would have depleted Midsomer
County quite a while ago.

Read them for fun, not for a deadly-serious who-dun-it.
