Historical novels by David Liss
A Conspiracy of Paper is set in early 18TH century London. It's an Edgar winning mystery/thriller in which the Ben Weaver, a retired prize fighter turned thief taker hunts the murderer of his father and three other people. The motive is a nebulous conspiracy to sell fraudulent shares in the South Sea company. THere is a sequel to this that I haven't read. The Coffee Trader is set in Amsterdam roughly 100 years earlier, and involves an attempt to corner the coffee market. Interestingly, both novels are set in the Jewish community and the protagonists and many of the principal characters are Jewish. I found both books entertaining, but somewhat plot heavy. If anyone else has read these I would like to know what you think of them.

3. Google him
He's got a website. There's also a biographical stub on Wikipedia.

2. Sounds interesting.
I found four of his titles at Audible.com.

I'll give them a listen during the holidays.
